On my 1974 I have a sm465 and NP205. I have only one crossmember and it is attached to the NP205.

I have the non w shaped crossmember.

The truck was OEM with a th350 and np203. Previous owner did the swap.

The skid plate that came with the truck (in a box of parts) I think is for the np203 as it needs two crossmembers to attach

Am I missing a crossmember or do I have the wrong style skid plate? The skid plate is basically a flat sheet with angles bends at the ends.

The frame has holes for a rear crossmember and the rear of the skid plate would attach to a second flat crossmember perfectly If it was there.

Do I need a second flat crossmember to support nothing but the skid plate?

Yeah. Th350-NP203 had 2 flat crossmembers and a mostly flat rectangular skid plate. Front crossmember had mounts for the tcase and skid, rear crossmember was skid only.

You should be able to find a flat one (front or rear) and slightly modify to make it work, or just build something to pick up the rear of the skid.

Found a second flat np205 crossmember on ebay for $70. Should bolt right up and allow me to put my skid plate on.
