Crossover steering using Ford parts?

Has anyone tried to do a crossover steering using Ford parts? I have a D44 front and was considering grabbing one of Ford's tie rods that measured close and trying it for clearance, etc. (I should really get my tranny fixed rather than thinking these things up)

Then renotch & rotate the pitman arm.

I've seen the other crossovers, but that's too much fab work for lil' ole me's skills (or lack thereof).
