well, dragging this back up for more tech.
1. my google-fu is either sucky or there is still no eliminator for a 14bff. Anyone found these commercially available? (remember, 14bff. you can find these all day long for 10 and 12 bolts)

2. Does anyone know what type of material would be used to manufacture one of these spacers? Are they hardened in any way? I am considering making my own as I have access to a lathe.

Cheers,

Rufus

Should just need standard DOM cut to the right length then source some shims to get the preload right.

This is on my list of things to do on the next 14 bolt rebuild.

that was my thought on the material I was just not sure if there would need to be any after machining operations like case hardening and such. Any other opinions?

Cheers,

Rufus

Damn, I just rebearinged my axle and could have done this at the same time. Didn't even think about it.

Damn you Kert! it would have been just another thing I would have had to send you $ for! LOL :haha::haha::haha: (Gladly by the way, your stuff rocks!:bow::bow:)

In all seriousness, thanks for joining in on the topic. How would you go about doing this? DOM? Would you worry about any kind of post machine work like hardening or do you think it would be hard enough on its own. I have no idea the hardness of the stock crush sleeve.

Cheers,
Rufus

I wouldn't think you'd need to harden it. Get a good wall thickness and let 'er buck.

I don't believe the crush sleeve has any hardening done too it. I do have the old one I could measure and possibly come up with a dimension to start with.

Well, thanks for the opinions guys. I have an old crush sleeve here and will start measuring.

Time to grab some thick DOM and make some swarf! :D

Once I finish it up I will reply to this thread with the results and full dimensions if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Rufus

I will try to find my old 10 bolt unit...

I can have the hardness tested at work...
