So my '90 came down with a sudden case of the "only 1st and reverse".
Was shifting perfectly prior. Anyhow, after dropping the pan, no big chunks, only the bits below and a disconcerting amount of metal "paste" adhered to the pan magnet. Keep in mind that this is a new-to-me vehicle and had never dropped the pan prior.

The WTF face-palm part when initially dropping the pan was this stuck in the filter opening:

Yes, a freaking little stick. How in the...? Other than obviously being in the pan when it was last, ahem, "serviced". :doah:

Governor gear is fine and TV adjustment appears good at the tail end. Still gonna replace the TV cable for other reasons as well as the governor (gear does appear a bit heated and brittle).

Any thoughts/comments?

Thanks,

DP

Thats a Green filter. It was an option in the 90's k5 and burbs. Very rare though. The parts houses don't even carry them so you may need to convert it.

Well, theres your problem right there. The darn stick fell out.

What, you never heard of an automatic stick shift????

Yeah, the "green" filter! Must of been part of the early GM Skunk-works program that has now morphed into the team behind the new Volt.

Good thing I saved the stick. I can put this piece of rare glory on ebay and bank. Should be able to bring in enough for a BTO Level 3.

Funniest part was that my lady was laying on the other side observing and as I say (with fluid still draining all over), "That looks like a..." and she says, "Stick...?"

I swear. Calling my work situation dysfunctional is a compliment, had to put my cat down yesterday, and now I find a twig in my tranny. I'm going to wear my moto helmet everywhere I go until this stuff simmers down. :haha:

Sorry about the cat. I am really having to work hard to keep from posting the Monty Python line about that............

There is going to be NO bandaid to fix this trans, it's going to take a FULL rebuild including some hard parts. :deal:
