Custom springs with shackle flip?

If I plan on going with custom springs is there any reason why I should put the shackle flip on. I already have the shackle flip and it keeps asking to be installed.
 
If they're our springs, you'd need the flip. The '67-72 trucks have more arch in the rear springs than the '73+ square bodies. We can do up to ~2-1/2" rear spring on the 1st gens, and more like 4" on the square bodies.

Basically the really soft springs start out with a lot more arch than normal because they'll compress more under the weight of the truck (because, well, they're soft). Above those lift height limits, you wouldn't be able to install them because they'd have too much arch. We can do more lift in the front than the back, fortunately the shackle flip is an easy way to make up the difference out back.
 
Aspects that I can think of.

The shackle flip brackets are probably in better shape and more durable than the factory pieces. But depending on how you are going to use the truck, this may not be a concern.

The tail of the springs hang down more with a flip.

The flip will keep the springs flatter.

There could be a small increase in twisting forces on the rear frame rails during cornering.

The pinion will need shimmed either way.

Either way, I would plan on moving the axle back 1" to keep it centered in the wheel well more.
 
I'll pay attention to the pinion angle. I figured I would have to move the axle back an inch since it already sits pretty far forward in the wheelwell.

I thought that you probably already had some of that in your plan.
