Any suggestions on trimming 14 bolt 4340 axle shafts to lenght ? Thanks

Never done it but I would use a cut off wheel on a die grinder if you have good air or probably better a cutoff on an angle grinder.

Are you trimming existing axles, or are you getting a cut-to-length like the ones Yukon makes?

If you're cutting an existing axle, take it to a shop. They'll be able to re-spline it after cutting pretty cheap. If you're using a cut-to-length, a wet saw would be preferable, but a chop saw will work. Don't do too fast of a cut to avoid the heat build-up, then bevel the end with a bench grinder and you're good to go.

These are new ones going in, i was planning on using my 14" chop saw with some water. I didnt know if anyone had a better way or tips.

Where the hell do you have a shop that will rebroach splines on an axle shaft for cheap????

I was thinking the same thing after reading about the tech involved.

We might have a different definition of cheap. Last time I had it done was a couple of years ago and it was $100 for a pair of axles to be shortened and re-splined. Poking around now it seems that 90-125 is the going rate. To me that's not bad for a job that's important that it gets done right and lacking the machinery and skill to do myself.

That is cheap considering the pricey machinery needed to do the task. Usually shops that have that kinda of equipment are utilizing it to manufacture something that has a better profit margin than resplining for someone walking in the door. I do agree thats a good price, but I would say youd be hard pressed to find that situation somewhere else.

I got them cut, i used my cut off saw and water. It took while to cut them. I still need to angle the ends slightly with an angle grinder
