Ok ive got an interesting few qs...

Ok so is caliper for a dana 60 for a 1978 gmc and chevy the same?

I installed a dana 60 in my k20 a while ago and all has been fine. After swamping truck..ive had brake issues.
I replaced driver and pass calipers in 2016 with gmc d60 calipers from autozone. Im having an issue with one so i just got a new one but i asked for a chevy caliper. Should be the same...

So...issue...
Caliper bolted on just fine. No issues; however, the new brakeline bolt is an 11mm head and wont go in the hole. Too big... the old one is 10mm...
So weird...
So i was going to go get a chevy k30 brake line but needs to be ordered.

Just curious on those that know if hose for d44 and 60 are the same and if chevy/gmc calipers are the same?

There are variances in 7/16" or 10mm banjo bolts depending on year, with 10mm being far more common ('79 and newer by application). The bolt head size doesn't tell you anything, it's a difference in the diameter of the threads.

Shoot.. you saying 78 is end and 79 is different? Think i ordered 78 caliper but axle is a 79... truck had a 78 chevy d44 and that hose bolted fine to 79 gmc d60

when ever i do my brake stuff i always go for 1985 so i am sure i get metric stuff only .

this keeps is stupid simple for me anyways .

This ^^

It's the same as 1/2 - 3/4 ton calipers as well as many other parts on the truck, things change over the years. Lock in 1 application and only buy parts for that.

Yup im an idiot. I knew front axle was 79 gmc and i ordered 78 chevy.

Chevy/gmc were same.... 78 and 79 were different. Actually the 78 used a size bigger bolt into brake hose into caliper than the 79.

Funnier yet is truck has 78 k20 brake lines!!!! That fit 78 d44 or 79 d60... ughhhh hah

All blead but alcohol prohibits me from test driving.

Now as long as brakes work now... friday ill drop it off at race shop down the road. I didnt post up here but idiot me back in 1997 put a 1991 caprice police roller motor in truck. Removed serp stuff and put my 78 stuff...also replaced heads with vortec...comp cams xtreme 4x4 cam and carb removing tbi. No clue what i did with all that stuff... but balancer dont belong on truck so timing mark is wrong and my msd dizzy is only putting out 5 degrees adv timing at WOT.... so theyre gonna fix me up and dial me in....and i will be in chicago till next week. Come back and hopefully done... and go get it.

So yet brakes still bad. Bought brake hoses and man nothing ever works out for me.can anyone point me in the right direction? I ordered for a 1978 chevy k20 pu as it is such. New hoses seem to be bigger and maybe for the 79? Plus male vs female...sheeze

What exactly is the issue? Banjo bolt wont fit?

Ignore the exterior threads on the frame end, those are for a nut to secure it in the frame - there are still threads inside for the hard brake line.

If everything fits except the tabs on the banjo end, cut them off?

Wait.... you're still ordering K20 parts for your D60?!? Haven't we already had this conversation? 60 stuff is different! Identify the year of your calipers by the size of the banjo bolt - 7/16" or 10mm? Order parts for the correosponding year K30.

and that looks like a 2wd brake hose for the new one .

just looked up the 78 k20 hose . that is a k20 78 hose style .

but as said the dana 60 stuff is different . you need to order the hose for early 77-78-79 ish for the 7/16 bolt size . or say 85 k30 if 10mm bolt size .

1978 k20 front hose https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7637716&cc=1051748&jsn=474

1978 k30 hose https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7640320&cc=1052794&jsn=571

1985 k30 hose https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=7644484&cc=1408328&jsn=713

not saying buy this brand . just using them for pic and info .

I would like to agree with you but no...

Lets backup... to 11/2003....
I purchased a 1979 gmc k3500 and removed the d60. Unbolted and rolled my 1978 k20 d44 from my camper special and left brakelines attached to truck. Rolled d60 under...bolted in...hooked up brakelines and off i went.

So if you read from start... the 79 d60 caliper has a smaller bolt (7/16) than the 78 d60... cuz bolt that came with new caliper was physically bigger.

So if im reading you right... 2 of the 78 d60s...

if you have banjo bolt 7/16 then the 78 k30 hose should do as the link i posted shows 7/16 banjo bolt hole .

the dana 60 use a bendix brake caliper . i am not sure who designed the 1/2 and 3/4 ton units . but there hose fit different as you see from the pics .

how your old one hooked up i have no clue . unless it was a late 78 production run and they swapped to the newer style ? ? or someone before you swapped stuff around and they never told you and you didnt know this info yet . . . who knows .

Parts came in and installed 100%... now i need time to bleed them. Hah. Gotta take kid to mma. Fwiw... both old possibly original brake lines came off super easy !?!??!?!

Thats a first
