dana 60 eaton elocker setup question

are you putting pressure/resistance on the ring gear while you take a pattern?

Yes, but I'm sure I'm not getting 40-50 ft/lbs. I've got the axles installed with one side locked and the other axle I'm holding as tight as I can with my hand while it turns. Probably not more than 15 ft pounds, but I haven't figured out a way to get anything higher than that.

Ok, backlash is at .005" and new pattern is below:

I could agree the pinion might be a tad deep. You think that's still true Chris? I can try finding a way to get more resistance on the ring gear to make sure.

You're probably getting enough resistance on the ring gear, the pattern is pretty easy to read.

And its just barely too deep, .001-.002" maybe. If it were me I'd probably run it as it is, the gears will be silent and strong (I've heard that gears are actually stronger if the pattern is a little bit deep, it helps keep the gears in better contact when the pinion deflects away but I have no experience to say that this works).

So I just went for it and finished the gear setup and things seem to have gone smoothly. I don't have a case spreader, but I did find that adding a little heat to the housing can get it to expand just enough to not have to pound the carrier into the housing as hard as when it's very cold outside.

Here's a picture of the wire lead plugged into the hole of the housing and everything torqued to spec.

Thanks for all help on the gear setup, that was pretty tough but interesting as well. I may be able to post some video of the locker engagement with the diff cover off in my build thread a little later.
