What size fender washers do I use to put under the Kingpin cap? I know it's a dumb question, but I am not near my rig.:o

Thanks in advance...

1/2" fender washer from Home depot works really good. 2" O.D., 1/2" hole, 1/16" thick so you can use one, two or three. You've used too many washers when the steering feels vague and kinda spooky without any return to center.

also might suggest getting new springs and bushings when you do it. ORD has them for $18 for both sides and add a few washers to give it an extra little pre-load for the larger, heavier tires.

I put new springs and bushings in when I built the axle about one thousand miles ago, just trying to get a little more preload on the springs.

Thank you both!

whats the reason for putting the washers in there and where exactly do they go ? on top of the spring ?

it'll preload the kingpin spring a bit more and help with deathwobble and prolong life of the lower KP bearing.

IIRC, you put the washer on top of the spring and then re-install the kingpin cap.

I found some 5/8"x2"dia.x1/8"thick washers in the warehouse, I'm going to try one of those on each side and see if it helps.
