Whats the deal with these.I see people looking for them, but have never saw one in person. Are lockers cheaper for these or something. What were they used in??

Don't know which 70's got them, but you can buy a drop in detroit for them like the 14 bolt has.

Dana used them in just about all open diff. D70's before somewhere around 1975 than they used both one piece and two piece carriers depending on application from than on out.
Detroits are/were available just like they are for 14FF 10.5's , Eatons , and such. Some places will only sell them as a unit with the OEM two piece carrier though.

I don't think I've ever seen one in a D70HD, but I've only seen 2-3 opened up in person (all the 1 pc).

Just about every Dodge or International seems to have them. Also, every D70 front axle I've seen has had one.

Every GM D70 HD that I have been into has had the one piece carrier too.
My 1975 Dodge "B" series D70 came with a one piece but according to Dana's B.O.M. literature all 1974 and older Dodge "B" series came with the two piece design.
The newest D70 two piece carrier that I have personally seen was out of a early eighty's F-350 Chassis that was an air craft mover ( one of those super short chassis ) . All other newer two piece carriers that I have seen have been actual D/L's .
