So finally got wife's 67 Suspension from Early Classic Enterprise on here truck went smooth looks great!

But then there is a problem! I got 5 lug axle shafts from CPP over a year ago and did not check to see if center of the hub on axle shaft was same as wheels ( 83 slots from C10). Guess what? The center hub on her wheels is to small by 1/4 maybe hair less, so wheels do not track straight/sit flush.

How the hell do I get out of this jam? I know could turn axle shaft center portion down but $$$ then could open hole up in wheel but then $$. Are we set on these wheels, I have no idea till she see's her truck together which will be a while as body work and paint are still need. I need this to be a roller to move it around.

So what should I do????? No use in spending $$ if she might not like wheels in the end. Could make do then spacer right?

Think I am over thinking this as I found this out less then 45 mins ago.
 
I would look and see if that center will fit in any wheels that you would use. Maybe the more usable solution is to turn the axle down.

Do the brake drums fit? I know that there could be a step there , but did you check that too?
 
there chevy axles from CPP. wheel fits just center bore is to big on axle for center bore on wheel to sit flush.
 
I have used a hole saw to enlarge rim center holes before--first I bolted a hunk of plywood to the lug holes,so the hole saw's pilot bit had something to drill into and help keep it centered...

Mag wheels will cut pretty easy--I did steel rims,had to use a variable speed drill at slow rpms and lots of oil for cutting lube to help keep the teeth on the saw from dulling rapidly..

You could fudge it by using a spacer with a center hole large enough to fit over the axle pilot,but then it wont be "hub-centric" (not a big deal in my opinion,others may disagree)--and your lug studs may need to be longer to get full thread depth on the lug nuts..
 
Put axle on stands, bolt drum on with lugnuts, start truck, put in gear so axles are spinning, use grinder to clearance the axle.

Poor mans lathe, and it won't screw up the brake drum register
 
I wouldnt change the register diameter, just put the drum on and grind it with a flapper til its flush with the drum/disc.
