OK, Everytime i go to start my truck the voltage meter goes into the red, and it sounds like my battery is real close to dying and struggles hard to turn over . The funny thing is; it starts evertyime. The battery and terminals are brand new and all of my connections are good, so what could cause this? Voltage regulator? Starter? Alternator? Timing?

Specs: 98 Silverado w/4.3 Vortec. Auto Tranny

Thanks in advance,

Check your grounds. Could be a bad starter motor, could also be your timing too advanced.

sounds like you got a starter dragging, it will cause the gauge to drop and early on will start everytime and then start getting worse and worse. Dustin

I have no clue how to work on these newer computer controlled engines, how do I check and adjust the timing?

The under hood sticker should tell you the spec and what wire to disconnect for timing. Not sure on yours but earlier TBI stuff is set at zero degrees with the timing wire disco'd. Your sticker should say. Also, if you nothing about this vehicle, it would be well worth while getting a decent manual on it.
Good luck.
