A friend has a old ford 2 ton with a detroit 8.2 that runs, he thinks the driveline is busted so it dont drive. He took a dump bed off it and put it on a newer 2 ton. Anyway to get to the point he said i could have it for free. all i realy know about them is it should be a v8 i think, and he said hes pritty sure it does NOT have a blower or turbo. Im thinking it would be huge and around 1500lbs? Anyone know more than i do?

When it was released it was called the fuel pincher. I think they were all turbo'ed. If they ran they were usually pretty good. But this engine excelled at breaking down. A lot. And usually it was expensive to fix. Detroit only offered it for a few years and then stopped. A former employer bought one brand new and rebuilt it 4 times in 39,000 miles. So as you can see it was a POS.

So if you get it for free sell it for scrap and be money ahead. BTW this engine was supposed to compete with the Cat 3208, it didn't.

......and it don't take much to beat out a 3208 for reliability. So thats saying something.

Hmm all things consitered I think Ill just let him have it hauled off. It dont appear to be worth my time. Thanks guys.
