I'm thinking about doing an engine swap in a late 80's chevy 1 ton. I might look for a 6v53 or a 4-53 Detroit. I'm not sure what trans I could bolt up to either of these engines, I would probably need an adapter any way. Just looking for some info before I get into it, has anyone had any experience with these swaps or done anything like this before?

4V53's were used in some GM application (delivery truck maybe???) so there is a GM flywheel housing I believe.

Arent detroits SAE 1 bell housings? Shouldnt be hard to find an SAE1 to Gm trans. Or maybe an SAE bell for a sm465 from a school bus?

It'd just be cool to have a Detroit in a k30. I like where the guy in the build thread is headed with his but it seems like he's been at it for a while. Maybe it would be easier to just use a 12v cummins but I like the idea of a Detroit in a gm just don't know which Detroit would be best for the project the guy in that build thread used a 4-71 Detroit with a turbo on it. I heard of a 4-53 or a 4v53 in a pick up before but I would have to do some research first. Just wanted to see what any one on ck5 new about swaps like this. It would be easier to have a gm drive train with a Detroit engine in it I wouldn't wanna have a 10 or 13 spd in a pick up

4-53s are line. I've never hear of a 4v53. 6v53 was the smallest of the v blocks that they made I'm pretty sure. Actually 99% sure.
