I can get a 208 Transfer case from a 1988 Chevy half ton pickup truck for cheap. The truck had an overdrive automatic. I don't know if the 1988 truck had a 4L60 or 700R4 transmission. Will that year 208 tranfer case fit my 1984 K5 Blazer with a 700R4?

an 88 pickup will be drivers drop tcase and your blazer is a pasenger drop so no

yeah, something doesn't make sense here. An 88 1/2 ton would have a drivers drop, but I would also think it would be the 241, and not a 208. So, it's either an 88 w/ a drivers drop 241, or an 87 w/ a pass drop 208.

If it's something you're calling someone on, then you better make sure they confirm what year it is and what t-case it is.

1989 was the first year for the 241. Because this is a new body style truck it would be a driver drop 208.

Ahh.. I see. I just figured they prolly changed over with the body style, and the drivers drop. I never owned an early IFS (not until I bought my 97, in 97) so I didn't keep up with what they were doing before that. I was still driving my 77 & 84 :thumb:

not to threadjack but, other than the output on the wrong side, will it work? i am asking this because i am thinking about doing a 241/205 doubler, and havent figured out what one i need (drivers or pass drop) for the 241.

The T-case will bolt up and work as far as rear shaft is concerned but obviously the front shaft won't work. I'm not sure about the shifter location though and what would need to be done if anything at all. I'm not sure how you plan to do a 241/205 doubler though. I would love to see that if you have some wierd idea.

No. My '88 had a driver's drop 241. I am pretty sure that GM never used a driver's drop 208.

Well, it would make sense to me for GM to have not made a 208 driver drop since it would be a 1 year only thing. Maybe the 241 was first introduced into the old body starting in 1989 but the new body got the 241. :dunno:

Copy/pasted from the net

NP 241
Type: Chain-driven, aluminum
Used by: 1988-to-present Chevy/GMC K-trucks (left-side output shaft), V-trucks (right-side output), and Dodge light-duty pickups and Ramchargers. The NP 241 replaced the NP 208 in 1988.

it can be done. there are people making these already. as for the front output on the 241, it gets cut off anyways. perhaps a drivers drop would give more clearance for the pass drop 205. shifters are a minor detail.

theres an 88 or 89 k1500 a friend is scrapping out and its got a 241c in it driver side aluminum front axle deal

i already bought the 700r4 out of it
and have it here,

im unsure which year it is, i should check just to add to this thread, you know

i could just check the stamping code on the tranny and it would show what year actually, first digit is last digit of the year, 8 or a 9

hmm

i can if you want me to

lemme know
