This may seem like a retarded question to some of you, but does my 379 Deisel have a mechanical fuel pump like a 350? And what would if any problems would I have using a fuel cell with my engine?

yup...

The 6.2 (aka 379 cid!) has a "Lift Pump" on the engine block ,similar to a small or big block gas motor..it delivers the diesel to the injector pump..

I have never used a fuel cell with a diesel, but I don't see why you couldn't..a stock diesel tank has water drain provisions though, and a return line is needed as well, but those issues can be worked around..maybe some company makes diesel specific fuel cells?...I'd think marine applications would be available, since many boats use diesels..

It will have a lift pump.

If you are haveing problems with it install a inline electric pump as your new lift pump and by pass the stock setup.
You can use any fuel cell. Jegs makes a few that have a supply line in a corner, a vent and a return. Look at those if you are buying a new one.
If you are retrofitting your existing cell then get a bulkhead fitting from jegs or someplace like them and install it in side of the cell real low.

I will PM you my # so I can explain this better.
