Diesel into a Crew Cab...

[ QUOTE ]
Hmmm....so is it worth it to buy new/rebuilt?

[/ QUOTE ]

A: Yes, if you can afford it.

[ QUOTE ]
Or can some good deals be found on used stuff? I really dont know what to look for?

[/ QUOTE ]

A: Good deals can be found, read a bunch of forums and call on ad's in your local paper, Talk to people, read magazines, join thedieselpage for GM diesels and there are forums for CTDs and Fords.

What is the difference between the 6.2 and the 6.5?

[/ QUOTE ] Different casting for the blocks, but all parts are pretty interchangeable. You can bore out a later 6.2 to 6.5 but not the earlier ones. Of course there are differences in the model years accessories, etc. The 6.2's were made from 82 til 93 I believe. The 6.5's were made from 92 til present for CUCV's (hummers).

What do the duramax and the superduty have in them?

[/ QUOTE ]

A: Duramx is a 6.6 TD intercooled ISUZU engine with a good and significant history in medium duty trucks. Very computerized and has an Allison transmission - very good.

Ford: the new ones have a 6.0 new design diesel, mixed reviews as far as reliability, computer issues - but I'm sure it will be a good engine after the bugs are out .

Old fords had a 6.9 and then a 7.3 diesel, with Turbos in the later years. Good diesels with their own strengths and weaknesses. Like any other engine no matter who makes it.

I was also reading another post where a guy was getting 10mpg and really wasnt happy with the 6.5....but then some say they are getting 16-19mpg? Like I said, I really dont know to much about diesels...so this is all kinda new to me.

A: A diesel's fuel economy will be affected by its operating parameters just like a gasoline engine. If you operate it at it's most efficient RPM and it is properly maintained it will provide a more efficient extraction of energy from the diesel fuel than a gasoline engine can extract from it's fuel. Diesel fuel also has more BTU's than gasoline. Diesel engines can also run on mineral or vegetable oil, kerosene, jet fuel, etc, similiar fuels with different names.
