Was looking for rims and tires tonight and bought a whole running donor truck for doors, tailgate, rims and tires, etc. today, and it came w/ a 350 gasser, th350 np205 transfer case combo. Blazer 1979 model year if it matters. Curious if swaping in the th350 for the 700r4 currently living in the truck would be worth while. This is a play truck, end product is planned to be running the 6.2 w/ 4" of lift, and 35x12.50x15 tires. It will be used for trail rides, hunting, fishing etc. nothing real strenuous right now. I'd like to swap in one ton running gear eventually, but right now its 10 bolts front and rear. I know the th350 isn't as strong as a th400, but is it a worth while swap for what I want to do or is it even possible to mate the th350 to the 6.2. Thanks for the help in advance. This Blazer bug gets worse and worse lol....Dave

I'll chime in with the dissenting opinion first: keep the 700.

Despite what a lot of CK5ers like to claim, if you have ever had these trannys apart you would see that they are very similar and the 700's internals are just as strong (in some cases stronger) than the 350. It does have it's weak points (as does the 350), but they can be addressed. If the vehicle spends any time on the highway you WILL want the 700's OD.

My opinion, run the 700 and stash away money for the inevitable rebuild day. When that day comes. you can decide to either rebuild the 700 with the good stuff, swap in a 400 if the truck sees no highway use, or swap in a 4L80E if you want the 400's strength with an OD. In no way would I consider the 350 an "upgrade" over a 700 though...

What he said. 6.2 + no OD = the suck.

Not to mention the 700R4 has a better 1st gear for wheeling.

Cool guys just wondering. I was planning a th400 swap in the furture, but had the TH350 in he donor truck so figured I'd ask. Not worried about gas milage, we do biodiesel and I don't make any long trips in the blazer just a toy...Dave
