I recently purchased an 86 K5 and am changing some things the previous owner did that I don't overly care for. He put seats in out of a later model something.... They have built in seat belts and sit low for my taste. I would like to put the factory style equipment back in. While the rig has some great modifications, I have always preferred my toys to have a very clean and nearly stock interior....

My question is what years had the correct seats for my 86? It has a hook/clasp area in the floor at the rear of the passenger front seat for what I would suspect is a fold forward seat frame. I don't think newer model Blazers had that option.....

I've found a partial seat set out of a 79, would that be the correct frame that I could reupholster to the correct style?

Any guidance would be appreciated...

Travis

I think 79 is when they switched to high back buckets in the Blazers. I know that from 69 to 78- I think all had the low back buckets. So I would say any 79 and up blazer seats would fit your truck. Are your floor pans original? They still have the holes for the factory seats? If not then it doesn't matter what year seats you throw in it. Unless you care that much about the factory original look. On a side note I had the same problem as you when I got my 76. PO had put in new floors and ditched the old front seats, put in newer seats from a I think a newer base model chevy truck. They sat way to low when I got the truck and I just put some 3 inch metal blocks under the mounting brackets for the seats where they bolt to the floor and used grade 8 bolts through the seat mounting brackets and the blocks and just bolted to the floor. Works great I can see over the hood now. Just an idea. I personally love the seats in this thing. They are way more comfortable than the stock ones and look good in the rig too.

The floors are original. I would like to out the interior back to all original and correct. If I can't find what I want seat wise I will be going with something similar to Beards all around. I will still need something that fold forward so I can get my kids in the back seat.

79 and up should fit, I'm sure other members who know interiors better will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Ok, the seller of the seats said they are actually from a 78. They are high back seats though. I will also need to replace the seatbelts since mine have vanished. His comes with belts, but again, I am unsure if correct for the 86.

Don't get me wrong, the truck is far from stock and I may update the upholstery to a better fabric. I've just found that over the years I've started to prefer to correct things that wernt quite done right or tastefully over the years. I guess I'm all about second chances at this point in my life.

Yeah it was '78 when they changed the rear floor to accommodate the fold up rear seat. '78 was the first year of the high-back front seats as well. Seats from 1978 to 1991 should fit your '86.

You can see pics of all of the types of seats on the Blazer Brochure page. It may give you a good idea of what you are looking for.

Well, I wilm go grab the seats. He has all but the drivers seat. That should be the easy one to find though.

I don't mind having to rebuild/reupholster the seat. This thing was a former show truck and I plan to put it back to a very nice driver. I'm tired of putting the miles on my Cummins and its a little cumbersome at times. I sold my CJ5 and bought theBlazer so I would have more room for my family. It needs some minor things to get back to its original glory.

Ok, I sent my dad to grab the seats before someone else did.... Now I just have to wait until I see him again to get them.

That being said, he snagged the seat belts, right front seat and the rear for $20. He even said the upholstery is good just a little dirty.

Now I just need to find a drivers seat. Is anyone running a Beard type seat in a K5? I'm thinking about putting a set in the front but would need to attach the factory brackets so I can tilt the right front up and get my kids in the back.

Any suggestions?

Th later year Blazers had the fixed back seat (with the fold up passenger seat) as the base seat. The reclining seats were optional.
