Disk brake conversion, but no brakes?

I recently got my truck up and going ( 1982 k20 with 14 BFF) it has a disc brake conversion in the rear from ORD. I have an adjustable proportioning valve in the rear and is adjusted to maximum brakes. I have 38.5" tires and all the brakes work but the rear just doesnt hold well.. The whole truck stops like a fully loaded tractor trailer truck. Everything in the system is new. (new lines, calipers (front and rear), rotors (front and rear) and pads (front and rear). It just doesnt stop well... The brakes should be more than adequate for 38.5" tires and it should lock the brakes up....Im at a loss, cause everything is brand new..any thoughts?

Did you remove the rear adjustable prop valve you told me you had installed? Did you try removing the calipers and using a block of wood between the pads and holding the caliper with the bleeder screw pointing up like i suggested?

been sick this past weekend with food poisoning...couldnt do much.. am removing the rear proportioning valve soon..

I know when I did my conversion it took a long time for the pads to fully seat on the rotors. It seemed like 2-3 months before I had good braking. Pull yours and see if they are seating properly

There is a new pad and rotor break in procedure that may help, check out the Baer or Brembo websites, they should have it on there. You basically start with soft stops, give everything a chance to cool to prevent pad glazing, and work your way up gradually to hard stops. It is supposed to provide better braking and pad/rotor life.

I'm fairly sure his problem is because he is running the factory prop valve and then added another prop valve to the rear brakes. He is going to need to remove one or the other before he can figure this out.
