Do away with daytime driving lights

Why would you want to disable a safety feature that saves lives????
Not sure they do when some cars have them and some cars don't. It may cause accidents with cars not running headlights...

I think ABATE had studies were the mandatory headlight on for motorcycles caused cars from the other direction to head towards them.

ABATE also said helmets did not save lives. No conflict of interest there.

I found that connector earlier today by chance, when I was turning my truck around to change the fuel pump.
Thanks for your help dyeager.
I bought the GM service manual for my burb but it doesn't have any good electrical schematics in it. What other manuals have good schematics.
Mr. Safety, I bet you don't drive with your lights on.

You need the actual electrical diagram for that year. Usually there are 3 manuals...service, electrical, and emissions. All complement each other, and leave a lot to be desired by themselves.

As to how much additional fuel it uses, wrong answer. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question424.htm Not authoritative of course, but pretty darn dumb IMO if we need to save gas to save money.

I'm sure I could put a dollar value on a life. DOT does it for every roadway project that is done. Pretty ridiculous IMO to say that we should spend all the money and resources for DRL (both in terms of what the automakers have to build/sell, plus fuel) if the cost benefit just isn't there. You can't legislate stupidity away, so don't try.

Per this articles figures http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-10-28-lights_x.htm each life "saved" that I calculated was $28,000. It cost just over $1 billion dollars to save 37,000 lives, not including the fuel usage. Of course, GM would save money if everything was built exactly the same, mandating them in the US would mean the Canadian harnesses would be identical to ours.

This diagram help?

Thanks for the diagram, I saved it. Where can I get a good set of electrical prints for my 91 Burb. Thanks

my 94 had DRL, all i had to do was remove the DRL fuse fron under the dash.

that's how i disabled the drls on my friend's grand prix.

it's weird that your '94 has them. my 94 c1500 doesn't.

Since we're on this subject, why do Chev's always have the passenger side DRL burnt out? I swear, every single one I see.

As far as why disconnect it? Why not? If I want my lights on in the day I can flip the switch. I'm a big boy. Same with helmets. If I want to wear a helmet, I will. I do, but at least here in OK I have the choice.

I agree it should be someones choice. Just weeds people out and natural selection can occur (not directed at anyone here). :D

Eh, the problem (now that I do more long distance driving in more remote areas) is that when passing someone on a 2 lane road, it is MUCH easier to see oncoming traffic, and judge distance, if both parties have their lights on. It's as much for others as it is for you.

That being said, poor drivers are the cause of 99% of all accidents out there. My statistics. :)
