I'm flushing out the entire brake fluid in a 2001 Silverado. Manual calls for Dot 3. I run some oversized tires. Should I go with Dot 4? Can it take DOT 4?

DOT 3 and DOT4 mix no problem.

Do not use DOT 5.

DOT 3, 4, and 5.1 are compatible. The higher the number the more heat it can withstand.

DOT 5 (not 5.1) is silicone based and doesn't damage paint, but has other issues. IMHO, DOT 5 should only be used in show cars.

Edit.... Don't forget to bleed the ABS system, can be done with a Tech 2 or similar scanner, or by slamming on the brakes a few times from 40-0 on a gravel road.
