Can anyone here drill holes in some fancy grade 8 bolts I got so they can be greasable like the ORD ones?

I got some big bolts to fit my Highboy and some new Energy Suspension bushings for the springs. The bushings have the little slots like the ORD greasable ones have and would like to see if these big bolts can be drilled down halfway. Then all I'd have to do is tap a zerk on the bolt head and drill a small hole in the center of the bushing sleeve.

What say you?

I know they sell them. I would have bought them to begin with.

Thing is, I've got 5/8" flange bolts, fine threads, with flange nuts. These things are monsters. They're going on my Highboy.

Have any local machine shops? I've drilled my fair share of grade 8 (or higher) bolts and no it's not fun but it can be done...
Just look up a local machine shop, it'll be cheaper and faster.

Just ask Kert if he can do them for you. If so ship them to him. Also, grade 8 bolts are no harder to drill than any other bolt. I drill them all the time at work.

Hey I got a friend down here at weaver manufacturing in wichita... I'll see if he can do anything to help ya out, he does all sorts of cool stuff for our trucks.

How many do you have to be drilled? If you want to ship them to me I can do them on my lathe. Give me a spicific diameter you want drilled, how deep, I can do the cross hole aswell. let me know.

Buy the time you pay for shipping and a bit of my time, will it be worth it, vs just buying more from Kert???

well, did you decide what you want to do??

Right now I'm looking for some bolts like these rear ones for the front springs.

If anyone can help, I'm trying to find 5/8"x18 flange bolts, 5" long.

I've already checked McMaster-Carr as thats where I got my other bolts. They don't have them in fine thread, only coarse.

If I can't find these bolts in fine thread 5" long, I may end up ordering all new bolts at coarse thread and then get them all drilled for the zerks.

Anyone know where to find the flange bolts 5" long in 5/8"x18 thread?

Well shiit! I just made a thread asking for some to search online. :doah::D

Wes, cross posting is a no no. :shame: :D

Now go order the bolts i found for you.

Hey Wes, there are 34 Fastenal locations in Kansas. You might want to see if one of those locations are near you and just go in and pick them up.

Yep, exactly what I was gonna do. There's one 35 miles from me in Salina. :wink1:

Scott, got a problem now.

Just got the new Energy Suspension front spring bushings today and each of the sleeves uses 9/16" bolts instead of 5/8" like I thought. Went back out under the Highboy and yep, 9/16" bolts.

I checked the Fastenal site for said size of flange bolts and they skip this size. Straight from 1/2" to 5/8".

Does anyone know where I can find some 9/16" flange bolts, fine threaded, 5" long?

Why not just make some sleeves for a 5/8" bolt? I had a buddy make me some new stainless steel sleeves for a larger bolt on the rear of my superlift springs. You may have to enlarge the hole in the bushings though to go out to a 5/8" bolt.

I've already been in the works with another member about this. Problem is, by the time the new sleeves get milled down, they're gonna be pretty damn thin. The o.d. of the sleeves I have here are 23/32". What do you think, too thin or not?

Theres a dozen or more bolt supply stores in the area immediately around where I work, any one of which would have most everything in stock.............not sure about where you're at, but getting the right bolt seems to be the really easy solution to me.

I walked into the one store and got my 1 1/4" x 7" GR 8 bolts, flats and nylocks for my rear suspention bushings. in stock and in hand in 10 miunutes.
