my friend is in the market for a late-model diesel truck. i recommended the Duramax RPO-code LBZ. It seems to me that it has much more low-end torque than most of its competitors, and is still a very drivable engine. He heard they have injector problems, though. is that a fact?

The LB7 was the one with injector problems. The LBZ is a good motor. a good web site to go to learn more about the duramax and all related items is www.dieselplace.com.

Hope this helps

we have an lbz in the driveway, all I can say is great truck! They all come with the 6 speed allison and gobs of power from the factory, i never want to get rid of it.

i think the excessive fuel return problem is what he'd heard about. i didn't think it was the LBZ, but i can see how he got it mixed up, since the codes LBZ and LB7 look pretty similar.

thanks.

what kind of mpg (real-world) do you see from it? my friend just had a baby and has a mortgage so he's trying to get reasonable efficiency. of course, i told him the purchase price of the truck would be a bigger hit than the fuel costs, but you know, catch 22. i just can't believe how much torque that thing makes at 1600 rpms. it's insane (in a good way)

we get like 11-12 city and 14-16 highway, but its a dually with a service bed that kills all aerodynamic efficiency, i have a buddy with a 2500hd that gets 20 city/highway average, not having dual rear wheels and a big ass box sticking over the cab helps alot. Oh yeah we have almost 50k miles on ours, just maintenance, all gravvy.

so, your dually gets about what my k5 (with 350) does, and the srw gets about what my 94 pickup does. not too bad. his grand prix gtp only gets about 22mpg. yeah, his foot is a pretty heavy.

Well, the truck with the best low end torque curve is going to arguably be the ISBE Cummins, since it rolls in hard at 1400RPM.;) You can not beat the Dodges with the Cummins on the low end. The Dmax seems to shine better on it's top end as it's more rev happy than the torquer I6 ISB's.

The 6spd Allison more than makes up for the engine though, as it's the best trans option period, in 2006-early '07.

He'll love an LBZ if he gets one.

Oh, he should be able to get 15 or so in town and high teens and very low 20's on the highway, if he's lucky.

I love my LBZ. First Diesel Ive owned and plan to keep it forever. I use mine to tow my CUCV and cannot even tell its back there. The ally 6 speed is also a huge plus.

i told him the new diesels are very drivable engines compared to the old ones. more hp, even more torque, less turbo lag, and better sounding. i don't mind the diesel sound, nor does he, but his wife whines a lot.
