Efi preference.: AFI vs FAST/EZEFI

TPI pumps that run ~43.5PSI are direct interchanges for the TBI pump. Unless you need more than that, the TBI sender/tank will work fine. Apparently you can run the TPI pump from the get go if you like as long as you have a regulator, since the regulator is what sets pressure.

Edit: The TPI pump is not a direct interchange FWIW. The hose outlet on the pump vs. the TBI tank fitting for the other end of the hose is different. Will fit, just tight. The 8.1L truck pump is a direct interchange. Part number is EP381.

Since the subject is going here. What's the fuel pressure required to run the fast TBI? I'm about to get a new tank with a TBI sender. And need to know if I get this set up in the future, would a stock TBI pump support this setup or would I have to switch out pump/tank to pre TBI?

I believe its higher than TPI pressure. Like vortec or LS engine mid 60s I wanna say.

So to play devils advocate, who here is running any of the systems, and what are their thoughts on them?

Self tuning sounds great, but does it actually work, and does it work right, or just make you think it works right?

On the systems you have to tune, is it any less complex than using/tuning a GM TBI setup that can already control the 4L80E?

I plan on running and tweaking Holley dominator before the spring. Not sure if I'm doing a new top end first or not though.

Dumb question, but they don't say explicitly on their site. Does the FAST ezefi control spark? Could it plug in to a distributor currently running GM TBI?

My FAST EZ EFI runs a regulated 43psi

So now I'm thinking to spring for the better(in theory) injection setup.
In theory there have been a lot of aftermarket EFI systems. Now try to find replacement parts for them?

Some of them even work well for the big bad modified engines they are meant for. Even though a stock GM system can be tuned for them and still be WAY under cost...

There's other places to get a harness for OD trans like Howell, Larrys's electric and many more. All the other parts are stock GM and can be had anywhere.

Getting a proper chip and fine tuning is not an issue! If you change trans later another chip is again easy!

Bumping this one back up. I have a mess of parts sitting in my cart at Summit. Including a FAST EZ EFI 2.0 system. Has some really nice features... dual fan control, timing control, up to 1200HP, slick controller interface.... Any overwhelming reason(s) to not pull the trigger?

I have been running the EZ-EFI for about a year. I like it, starts right up, great throttle response, still runs on steep angles...

The 2.0 with timing control should be even better.

I'm running mostly stock for now, 88 Burb with TBI. Over the weekend I'm installing the Dynamic EFI system. It takes the stock GM computer and injection, and updates it to full tuning with a laptop. I've already installed the hardware in the computer, just need to plug it in, load software/tuning, and let it do its self tuning. Advantage of using ALL stock GM stuff, but with the ability to go far beyond the stock tuning and even upgrade to a 4 injector throttle body, or two 2 injector throttle bodies. Be sure to check it out before dropping huge cash on aftermarket stuff. Not that I wouldn't enjoy a nice FAST system, but I really like the fact that for the most part everything I need to repair and or replace is off the shelf GM stuff.

how much?

Basic self install in your computer $350 Complete pre-done ECU with 4 injector mod $505
Software free, might need a USB to serial adaptor. It also allows full monitoring of the truck with the laptop including trouble codes and all sensor data. Up to 8 additional inputs (wide band O2, fuel pressure, ect) all with data logging for tuning.

Check it out...............

ETA: no chip swapping, stores 8 full tunes in flash memory. Couple laptop clicks to swap memory spots.

Dynamic EBL is an excellent choice to tuning a GM TBI or MPFI system.

Other then the boards added to the ECM you are still able to replace, repair everything with Auto Parts Store parts. Nothing special order or obsolete aftermarket parts. Simple GM!

Handles boost and Nitrous but not E trans...

Great support for learning the tuning end as well.

After learning that the newest FAST design now supports timing control I'm awfully tempted to move away from the Holley Dominator system that I'd previously lusted after.....

Ultimately I still need a 4L80E controller, so I'll have to dig in to see if FAST has a solution that integrates the two?

It's hard to go wrong with FAST. Lots of expertise and available support in the EFI world. I'd say go for it.... Love to see how your BBC runs with it. :waytogo:

Im shopping this again for a purchase within the next couple months. I was curious why you're on the fence now? I was fairly certain I was set in my desire for the dominator so I havent really been comparing anything else lately. I also like the atomizer ring in the dominator, not sure if you've seen that.

Subscribing for future reference.

Looking to go fuel injection before next winter hits.

Wow that's awesome. Good by edelbrock.

I've got DynamicEFI and am happy with it. I use it to control my electric fan. He hijacked some of the unused pins on the connector to do other things.

Upside is that it is all GM stuff. Downside is that it's all GM stuff, so nobody will hold your hand to get it set up. DynamicEFI will just send you the computer, so you need to figure out a harness, distributor, fuel delivery, etc. I know it's not a big deal for a lot of guys, but I understand the benefits of getting everything in a box and having a 1-800 number you can call. The hardware is also getting on 25+ years old. Don't know how much that matters, but I think about it sometimes.

I took a peek at it. Id rather just have one cohesive after market unit than hobbled together factory stuff to be honest. It might be good for a mild motor or getting a big block running better but when it comes to a hot motor I'll pass.

Really? Forced induction, NO2, timing, electronic fan control, shift light, all in an easy to tune and parts replace package. 400 hp with basic set-up (fuel pressure and BB tbi), and MUCH higher with twin TBI or a 4 injector tbi.
