Does any one have ideas on why Eaton made the eLocker for the 14b semi floaters and not the full floaters? Is it applications, design issues, no demand or are they just overlooking this segment of the market?

I've also been wondering the same thing. I don't get the impression one will be made available for the ff axle which is a shame.

I was wondering about that too. It seems the expansion of the e-locker line is pretty much non-existent. What was introduced initially has pretty much been it, no?

I was thinking perhaps it's tied into a traction control system that the H2 has and 14FF applications don't, where the Gov-lock (or whatever they use in 14FF apps nowadays) is more than adequate?

No idea if the H2 has some sort of push-button "lock" on the dash for the axle(s), that would be the only reason I could see to use it as opposed to something like the gov-lock.

They did have some quality control problem that was a big deal a while back but I was hoping they'd fixed it and would expand it a bit.

most likely there will not be one developed for the 10.5, People consider it an old very out dated design that needs to be redone to make production of the axle more cost effective. If any thing they would be moving twords the DCX style 10.5. These share the same ring gear and yoke but thats it, the diff and case are one peice not two like the GM 10.5. But also with the truck market so far down they may not put money into any new devlopments

I was sitting at work thinking about the current conditions of the new truck market and how its so poor right now. With dealers going belly-up(bill heard, his top management is to blame) and others offering major discounts on current models, it is unlikely that such a large company, such as Eaton, would not consider doing something for aftermarket like the older 14bff.

I was just hoping someone knew something that was coming down the pike from them for us. I really like the idea of having an electric locker in a DD/tow rig/part time 4x4/camp rig/woods toy.

I guess ARB air is the next best choice for this kind of application.

It wasn't QC issues, it was design problems with the D44 and D60 E-Locker. The Dana carriers are relatively narrow, so the locking pin type design used in the 10b, 14bsf, and 8.8 carriers couldn't be used. They came up with a collar locking arrangement, but it had problems and they recalled them. The 2nd design Dana E-Lockers are supposed to be OK. The Pin type E-Lockers never had any problems. I have a pair myself, and they always work when you poke the button.

As for the 14bff, I would say the lack of an E-locker is a combination of two factors: one is demand and potential profitability - I have a feeling the D44 and D60 applications are probably money losers for Eaton. Since the 10b, 14bsf, and I think the 8.8 apps are OEM, they are probably more profitable. Unless GM started using them in trucks, I doubt Eaton would make any money off of a 14bff E-locker. The second factor is design: the 14bff carrier, with it's diff spiders on the back side of the ring gear, is an oddball arrangement compared to more conventional carriers. Judging by how the other E-lockers are designed I see no way to physically fit the magnet and locking mechanism to a 14bff carrier...
