Hi,

starting this thread now to keep track of everything I'm gonna do. For now I'll not go for a full resto. Plan is to maintain/redo the K5 as original as it was when it got delivered.

Backstory: The car was ordered from and delivered to Germany in 1979. It was pretty much in one families hands for the last 33 years until I bought it recently and drove it home all across Germany - without any issues I may add ;). It has the Cheyenne interior with working power windows (rear one works fine too), air conditioning, power locks and a recently gone bad factory installed tach. The cruise control didn't work when I bought it. The frame is in good condition. The engine etc.. is tight..no oil leaks at all. It has typical isolated rust patches around the forward foot rest area and around the wheel cases as well as the doors and tailgate.

I plan to do the following in the near future:

As the tax situation on cars is a little different (read: sh++ty) in europe the car will be assigned so called oldtimer plates...this saves on insurance and tax. To do that it has to be as original as possible and be in a predetermined optical and technical condition.

Gameplan:
Clean, clean, clean and detail interior and exterior
Get rid of all the rust areas (cut out), weld in panels, repaint areas
Sandblast and repaint the top
New Carpet
New seals for doors, tailgate and so on
Replace/reapply emblems
Replace all cracked, broken, missing panels, switches (e.g. wiper washer) etc.
Replace all (bubbly looking) chrome parts such as headlight bezels or tailgate "escutcheon".
Etc..etc..etc..

Here are some pictures of the current state:

To be continued...

No right hand drive? Nice rig, pretty clean for its age. Im only 26 and dont look half that good.

wow that is way clean! I bet it gets some looks since it's so rare too. looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Update

Hello,

two years have passed so it really is time for an update. The Blazer is coming along very slowly, but recently it starts looking more and more like the major stuff is behind me.

After ripping out everything possible inside and out the rusty areas have been cutout and panels welded in place. One area that was tough to get to (didnt want to take the perfectly fine engine out) was the firewall. The old paint was taken off and bodywork etc.. performed. The new paint has been applied. Now taking care of bushings, suspension, brakes etc... to get it street legal (very picky authorities here).

Please enjoy the pictures, I will keep you posted.
