Ever dig through your parts collection?

Yeah, one reason I keep buying old GM trucks is I ain't out of PARTS yet!..:doah:...I usually have more in stock that the junkyards here have nowadays STILL,after 20+ years of owning them I have accumulated a lot,but I did do a "cleansing" of the yard when I scrapped my 74 k2500,I put 3 front axles I sold the outers off of in the cab, along with a 3.08 posi 12 bolt I probably shoulda kept, and sent a full truck bed of old springs and a '73 K10 frame I probably shouldn't have scrapped all to the crusher for 225 bucks in '06..had I waited a few more months I could have gotten 230 a ton for it--would have got 600+ bucks for the same load!..:(..
...now finding anything older than 1990 in a junkyard is very difficult, and if you do you'd better strip what you want off it right then and there,or it'll dissapear..I had one yard scoop up a Suburban I was in with the loader not long ago,I think both ME and the loader operator nearly had a heart attack when I yelled at him to put it down!.. I'm glad I hoarded a lot of parts in the past, cause finding more is getting to be a "swap meet only" deal, these trucks are getting scarce here lately..

Yep, I had several 4x4's I was thinking about in the same price range...but the K5 I have the first hand knowledge and a lot of parts for so it was pretty much a no brainer.

Not here, they are literally littering the local yards. The only thing you can't seem to find is a front Dana 60 axle.

I clean stuff out every couple of years. If I don't it will overtake me, right now in my spare stuff I have a front clip for a 73 a perfect 73 grille about 4 or 5 extra fenders for the 80 and up stuff 2 hoods, several sets of tailights a couple wiriing harnesses, headlights, headlight buckets, seats, an extra cab, an extra suburban about 4 front 10bs one sf 14b a couple of 44 fronts in pieces

I got alot of junk after I get the crew cab going some of it is going to start going away.

Plus I have like 4 turbo 400 one 700 2 350s (motors and trannys) some 454 parts yadda yadda yadda

tried to sell a bunch of stuff but everyone wants to know if the trannys worked, and I don't know.

this happens to me all the time almost every day and has been for 15 years now, plus my stepdad has stuff stashed on a farm and other plces since the late 70s and omg! rare stuff!! BBC stuff! old mustang stuff! old VW stuff! even found an original 1969 aluminum 427 corvette Q jet intake and an old 60s 409 chevy bellhousing, i sold these recently, i mean wow... muncie 4 speeds and more as well.. back i the days when this stuff was everywhere wow.. i cant evne imagine it,,,

i missed out, born too late..

dammit,.

lucky bastards,.,.

gold mine,,.,.... some day i will get to go through and pull engines and blocks and heads and all the parts out and sort and sell or scrap.. somehow... i dont know how though,, wow...

chevelle stuff,,, 50s ford truck stuff..

insane,..

mess..,

not counting my own rat packing stashes from just the last 15 years of stripping out over 150 personal cars trucks vans....

once its in the blood it is forever it seems like.

a freaking curse.......

but then its nice to sell and make some $ now and then, so then youre glad to have saved the parts after all..

or when you need the for something also..

hmm.

Was moving some stuff around on a shelf and spotted a box from Summit
that was unopened....

Opened up the box and there was a brand new shift light monster tach that I had been fighting with summit about getting replaced under warranty...three years ago......

I had given up on it and bought another one....

Apparently my wife (ex) had found it at the front door,, did me a favor and threw it on the shelf and didn't ever tell me it arrived ......:rolleyes:

I dig through my collection every few years and sell what I will probably never use. I am scaled back now from what I used to have and now when I pull a part off the truck to upgrade it I don't hang on to it.

I've been cleaning out my (dad's) garage over the last three weeks in preparation for my Cummins swap. Between local classifieds and evilbay, I've pocketed just over $2400 in the last month from stuff I had in there that I'll never need or use :-) Helps pay for conversion parts :D

Sorry Rene! Had to dredge this one up from just over a year ago.

I've been doing this lately, trying to find parts or tools and searching all over the new shop for it/them.

Thats the curse of building a new shop: you put too much crap in it and you're in a hurry so you don't organize everything right away.

I've been back and forth looking for something only to give up and find it about a week or so later. By then, I didn't need it anymore. :doah:

Methinks when spring time gets here, the shop needs a major cleaning and downsizing of collected parts and other crap.

Oh I am going thru that now, I lost one of my homes I used as storage so I moved everything to my house and just threw it in, and now I am trying to organize a bit to find some things I need, and I keep finding things I lost and some things I forgot I had.
Plus I found somethings I know I never bought but then realized it was stuff the previous tenant bought and left behind.
Good thing I am not senile yet or I would have thought I forgot I bought them.
I should go thru another power selling spree, when I lost my job I did that for 6 months and I was averaging $8000 a month.
I don't have as much of the good stuff anymore but I can still get a few hundreds every week.
Winter time is slow time for my business so now is the time.
