I'm sure there is a thread that shows this, but I couldn't figure out the right search terms for it. I am going to the junkyard tomorrow to pull some 305 heads. Is there any easy way to tell if it is a 305 before I tear into it? Thanks

Most 305s have 5.0 stamped on the rear of the block above the bell housing (viewed from above)

There is no difference eternally. All SBC engines after 1986 did say either 5.0 or 5.7 on the rear bellhousing area of the block. That doesn't mean though that someone hasn't changed the heads. The only true way to find some 305 heads is to check the casting numbers.

you can alay print off the cating number lit from mortec and then hit the wrecking yards. I have a set of 305 heads here in front of me and they are casting number 14014416. Are you looking for perimeter bolt or centerbolt heads?
