Extra wide diesel radiator application ?

Another 6.2L K10 pickup, RPO B3J but not V02. This one actually had a 2 row radiator but likely an aftermarket replacement.

KENNYW, I was hoping that you would chime in on this.

An engine swap is what came to mind as well but since I’ve been paying attention to any specific cab chassis 454 equipped truck there’s been several that appear to be legit originals with the extra wide radiator.
Mine is an original “W” in the VIN that indicates a 454 equipped truck.

@Truckman4life , on that truck you posted up in the “Crew Cabs & other worthy rigs” thread was there by chance any pics of the SPID sticker or a VIN in that for sale advertisement?
I’m hoping to see if there is a difference in codes for a cab chassis equipped 454 with and w/o the wider radiator.

I would love to have a catalog but I don’t. At one time I had GM microfiche but it was really difficult to navigate (compared to Toyota), I’ll look for it.
I too really hated the GM microphish always gave me a headache. I have a printed 85-86 g van GM parts catalog. I doubt the info would relevant to the question here. Was the last printed parts catalog I am aware of.

@kennyw bringing the goods! :bow:

@Wes Harden I found the microfiche last night and stared at it for a few hours, what a pita.

@tarussell I didn’t come up with jack sheet. No common radiator or radiator hardware numbers between 454 and 6.2’s. The V02 RPO is spread randomly through trucks like kennyw just described. Nothing interesting at all.

No such luck.
I used to have a '77 C30 with the big block and the camper special package and wondered if they had a bigger rad but everything I'm finding says it just had a standard big block radiator.

As far as I can tell ( just as OBIJUANK5’s GM book shows ) none of the normal regular cab & crew cab trucks with beds on 131.5” & 164.5” wheel base would have come with a 7.4L and the wide radiator but I’m wondering if the book lists anything specific to the Cab Chassis applications ; example chassis designation “K31003 w/135.5” W/B & K31403 w/159.5” W/B” instead of the normal trucks with “K30903 w/131.5” W/B & K30943 w/164.5” W/B” ?
My buddy at a Chevy dealership informed me that I need to verify anytime the GM books being looked at specifically include the cab chassis stuff because most of them only cover the standard truck chassis.
The dealerships now have to go by VIN’s for damn near anything nowadays - I guess that I need to get a C/C diesel VIN and have it crossed referenced compared to mine ( if it’s not too old to do so being an 83 model year ).

I included a listing of chassis designations of the older “K” series stuff just in case it shows up in anyone’s book listing - maybe the numerics remained the same after the “V/R” designations came around in OBIJUANS book?

Thanks for any help on this,
Tom

@tarussell I looked at my microfiche again and all of the applications covered are for "regular" 10/20/30 series trucks, I haven't found any listings for cab & chassis trucks (even checking listings where wheelbase makes a difference).

It does help that I started taking pics of every SPID on all of the trucks I buy. That isn't even half of the trucks in the last 4 years living here though. That was just what I could find before I fell asleep.
KENNYW, do ya’ recall having any trucks that were big block cab chassis’ from 1982 to 1991 ?

I don't know if it was established or not, but as far as all the trucks I've ever seen from the 80's have provisions for the wider radiator. Yes, it does end up running behind the vertical support.

My old 84 K5 was a CUCV so it had the 6.2L and extra wide radiator.

I put the wide radiator in my 89 crewcab and technically the radiator application was a GMT400 truck with a 454, just have to be sure to get the version with the short filler neck.

The trickiest part is getting the upper brackets for the wide radiator.
