F-body or Vette ecm

If you want to stick with the 193's, definitely look into porting them. From the sounds of it pretty substantial gains can be had with not too much work. I believe Thunder can give you some pointers! :)

I can certainly understand the economy aspect. As I alluded to, my build could have been a lot cheaper, with the same outcome, had I started out with another block and some different heads.

That is one benefit I have. I am starting with a roller cam TBI block from a Caprice police car. I plan to put in a L98 cam, maybe a LT1/4 down the line. 193 heads to start with, and plan for porting the intake.

To be honest, I've been thinking that if someone were to get their hands on the Corvette L98 heads for *cheap* (aluminum) that might not be a horrible swap either. Probably not as good for low end as the TBI or Vortec heads, but I'm a huge fan of weight savings, even in one of these beasts of a truck.

Gotta figure, aluminum heads, along with a TPI setup (vs cast heads and cast intake) probably offset the weight gain of going with a 14SF over a 10 bolt in the rear, or if no added truck weight, would increase economy, even if slightly.

What are the specs on the L98 cam? I assume it's a pretty decent cam for torque.

Here is the info for the L98 cam. I am thinking it should be pretty decent on torque with the TPI and 193 heads.
