Anyone seen any good fender flares. I wanna see about finding some of the type with the external bolt holes like you see on cherokees and stuff. I can't seem to find them so if you guys can help me some links that'd be great. Thanks guys.

bushwacker cut outs, its what im looking to put on my 86, but they are expensive as all hell. i hope theyre made of kryptonite.

the guy that name is mountainexplorer on youtube has them on a i think 1980 gmc. if anybody knows him they could ask where he got them. i think i seen him around here b4 but idk. he does have his own website thow on all his trucks.

Check out rob h's profile. He's from PA where they have to have the flares covering their tires to pass the safety inspection. His look like Bushwhacker 6" extended flares to me. There's a couple of other guys on here that have them too but I can't remember their names.

They're not made of anything special. They will break. And they look ghey if you ask me. I would only get them if I had to. I would get the black ones and not paint them either because the paint will eventually start to crack and wear off and look terrible, especially if you hit some limbs and scratch and crack them or something.

I have both sets(warns and bushwackers)also have pocket style and extenda fenders. The flares you speak of are bushwacker pocket style cutouts. If i remember correctly you cut out 3 inches fron and rear on the fender and they cover 3.5-4 inches. They helped alot for me here in pa. Also take a good beating offroad.

yeah i did have concerns about how durable they were, anyone ever heard of someone spraying bedliner on the cut out flares to give them some reinforcement? If i ever get the truck into the body shop, fixed, and painted, id be doing the lower 12in all around in bedliner, as well as the wheel wells, to prevent trail damage and consequent rust. bedlining the fender flairs would look good and might even make em withstand abuse better.... maybe?

I've heard of guys doing the exact thing you're talking about. Spray-on bedliner is supposed to be more flexible than normal paint, so maybe it would help with the paint on the flares cracking and chipping and what not. I would just leave them unpainted unless I was trying to make the truck look really nice, but then I may get worried about scratching it all the time.

Mine are 10 years old, were painted black with cheap krylon, scuffed with scotchbrite first 5 years ago and the paint never cracked or peeled. I painted them again last year because they faded. The only time the flare itself cracked was when my tire slammed it during full flex, all i did was add a screw to the inside of the inner fender and its been all good ever since.

If your painting the lower part of the body in bedliner than i would prep the flares too and spray em, that might help some and it would make it thicker. But then again the bed liner at the body shop is way better than the cheap crap in a can.

rob - thanks for the posts, ive been on the fence about em cuz they are so expensive, but im sure im gonna need em. i just worried about em being kinda flimsy. but sounds like they are well worth the price. and to be honest i dig the way they look too. Looks like im gonna get an early xmas present with the next paycheck. the other bonus is ive got some cancer i need to cut out of the wheel wells, and these pocket flairs will let me do that and make it look decent :waytogo:

Honestly tho i think the cutouts with out the visible bolts are stronger, Although they have 2 sided tape on top and screws in the inner fender.

The pocket style cutouts(with visible bolts) you have to be easy you dont crank the screws, just snug em, they could crack by each screw. I had both sets, the cutouts with out the visible screws is what i still have, the style with the visible screws were on the truck i sold but they do take a beating also. i guess its just preferance.

I also had real rusty set of bedsides and hacked alot outa them, the style with the visible screws would help with that. Remember tho they say that you dont take any meat outa the top, just the sides. When you get em you will see you can do alot more..lol..They hide alot.

heres the set of cutouts up front and the extenda fenders on the rear. they dont make cutouts for th style bed but they match real good.....And then one of them in green

Personally, I like the look of them. That said, I wouldn't put them on again unless I had to due to legal issues. They limit future trimming and leave behind a million holes if you ditch them.

Mine are Bushwacker cut-out pocket style. I'm pretty sure I got them from Summit Racing about 6-7 years ago. They can and likely will crack around the screw holes at some point. When the first one cracked, I called Bushwacker and they sent me a new flare at no charge based soley on my word - pretty cool if you ask me. The new flare is still in the barn loft (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). There are a few more cracks now if you include all four but they haven't caused any issues whatsoever. Mine are trimmed pretty aggressively and get dragged through the bushes from time to time. Your results may vary.

Mine are not painted. If memory serves (before extra trimming): the front removes about an inch on each side of the fender opening (total 2" wider) and the rear removes 2" from each side (total 4" wider).

yup thats it, thats the look im goin for with my build. i love the pocket style fender flares. makes these old chevys just look mean

josh86k10 - ohhhhhh another sick truck.... is this gonna become a truck porn thread... im down. But thanks for putting up your pictures. The two tone paint kinda gives me a measure to guage how the rhino lining will look around the lower 12in of my truck.

oh yeah... rob and josh, just out of curiosity... how much lift are you guys running with those setups? especially josh with those 39.5's.

well dang..... with just 6in lift planned, running 40in tires may be a tad optimistic. ah well, a set of 5 37in Hummer tires off ebay is about a quarter the price of a set of 39.5in IROKs, maybe i should be a tad responsible on this one ;)
