So long story short is I work for NYC Sanitation. One of the guys wasnt paying attention and hit the blazer with a garbage truck, 30 tons of vehicle smacked into my truck, lol.

Somehow it didnt do That much damage, pushed the area above the rear(pass) tail light in and ripped open about a 4inch high hole in the top corner.

The city will probably pay me for it, i'll have the rear quarter fixed only because it punched a hole thru to the inside of the truck(Behind the panels inside the truck).

The top, well it just seems easier to fix it then try and find another one. Plus I get to keep more of the check they are going to cut me, lol.

Seems like you could fix it if you really wanted to.

For the record, however, it took me almost 6 months to give my top away. Around here K5 tops are ridiculously easy to find for cheap or free.

Not sure how hard it will be to find one here in NY, would want a black one with the sliding windows too, big fan of them. Plus I wouldn't even know how to dispose of this one if I got another used one, lol.

Try craigslist and any local boards you might have. The windows are a direct swap, not sure how easy that is to do without destroying the older seals. And you can always paint any top.

But the damage to your top doesn't look all that bad, if you know how to work fiberglass you can probably make that work.

The top corner of the bedside is gonna be a bitch to fix nicely. I'd get a couple of estimates and then let a pro fix it. I'd probably replace the hardtop rather than try to mess with it.

That's some pretty nasty damage...if you like your K5 you're gonna want that fixed right.

i agree with what's been said... i ended up cutting one up... watch CL.....

BUT if it comes down to it, and you need to fix it, I can walk ya thru it..... i do repairs like that daily...

Thanks guys.

Is the rear quarter and the bedside where the top sits all one piece? Trucks surrounded by snow and I dont feel like digging thru there right now lol.

If so, if I buy a whole new panel from LMC, how difficult is it to change the whole thing out?

Thanks

there will be lots of hidden damage under that skin on the rear quarter panel.

and i got a top you can have for free from a m1009 blazer. come get it. 14845 zipcode

and its super easy to swap the slider windows over. so dont be scared to get a top with solid glass in it.

then get the city to toss your old top in the trash for you.

When I take the rear quarter panel off, forgive the ignorance but is it like a fender? Bolts on and off? Or is there more under there that may be damaged?

you will have LOTS of spot welds. bolts . nuts. and brace brackets .

if you care about this blazer and want it right let them pay and have the pros do it.

body work is lots of fun
