Which paint scheme?

I'm not bashing white. It has served me well. But after 12 years, I dunno, something different would be nice. If I had to make a decision right this second, it'd be #2. Oddly enough, on the poll #3 has taken off which was kind of in last place for me. Damn.

I think if I were to ever repaint mine it would be something in the silver family. But your two-idea I would do white stripe.

Originally mine paint was going to be like #2 with silverish bottom and dark blue top.

But now chief's color and the original color of mine are growing on me so now I am thinking harvest gold and satin black or charcoal top with a satin black rs styling on the hood. It also saves me time and hassle as I don't have to repaint the interior, dash and doors. Flooring will be a bedliner material in black or charcoal and the two seem to work well together for me

Not too much worried about resale. I figure by the time I sell it (if ever), someone will buy it because it's nice. Paint will be secondary.

Leaning hard towards #2.

I like white...especially like yours with the top off...I would probably do a satin white...not too glossy...

I'm not fond of the red / white combo

I'd either go all black or stay white and keeping it white will be the cheapest...

with a red interior though you are limited unless you decide to change interior also.

Light gray / silver would work too...

I just think clean white body really makes a nice set of black tires look real good...and those look sharp with the top off...just my opinion

The white looks washed out in this photo, but it is pear white over red. It would glow red when the sun hit it just right. It has started to peel now. It was done base coat/clear coat, before I got it. It seems to have a bonding issue with the paint. The clear coat was much easier to wash than my 79 C20 which is single stage white with a blue stripe (factory colors). I like the K5 without the trim. The trim just gets damaged and looks less sleek. I didn't get the trim put back on my pickup after it was painted either. It still looks good without the trim, but with a 2 tone.

The problem with the pearl is that it might be hard to touch up if you had body damage or to fix a nick in the paint. Solid white would be easier to cover an ugly ding.

I don't like the half and half red and white. It looks odd. The original red stripe is nice and classic. White is cooler in the summer, I think, and it is a common color. Just make sure you don't go with a creamy white, unless you like that. White also shows way too much dirt.

I have thought about what color I would do my K5, but I haven't decided. I am very tired of blue, which is the color of the stripe and interior of my 79. The K5 is a gray interior. I like yellow blazers, but I don't know if I would like mine to be yellow. White just seems right, but that is all I know.

Well, just an update....

A little later than expected, but finally dropped truck off the other day. Went with #2 (possibly against you guys' better judgement) because I wanted that little touch of custom. Also, if I ever want to convert it to the original type paint scheme(see post #7), I'd just have to paint the red bottom, which I can do myself. I really just didn't have the time for an all-over paint job.

Should be 3-4 wks. It will be stripped to bare metal, primered, blocked, sealed, painted, and 3 clear coats. Both the red and white are current factory GM colors so easy to replicate if I need to. Will post pic when I get it back, obviously. I appreciate all the opinions, but I'm pretty happy with my choice for now.

Good choice. I took a shot and didn't read all 4 pages before voting and actually picked #3 because I've always loved that factory scheme. I thought #2 & #3 both were awesome, you can't go wrong with either.

BTW, if that's your house behind there - love it. That place has killer curb appeal. Really dig the upstairs windows etc.. Ooops.. Back to topic!

Thanks man, and yeah that's my house. Have to give all the credit for that to the wife though. If it was up to me, the picture would be in front of a shop about that size and there'd be a trailer next to it that I lived in. She tries to keep it classy.

Beulah's back from paint!!! Paint job came out great. No drips, runs, grit, sanding marks, minimal orange peel. I'm really satisfied...so far. I know the poll was pretty split as far as which scheme to go with, but I'm happy with it. I think it'll really look good once I put all the stuff back on it to break up the red and white a little bit. I also have some new 17x9 MT Classic Locks ready to go, but haven't decided on tires yet. Reassembly first. I've still got some work to do, but I'm ready to drive it again.

Love it. That turned out really sharp. Looking forward to seeing some more pics when it comes together. Those milestones are really fun parts of owning one of these rigs long term, you become so accustomed to how it has looked for so long, and then when it transforms to something completely new to you (in a good way of course) it's really exciting.

Great choice.

Thanks. It's definitely something "completely new". I'm so used to the old chalky, flat white paint that it I'm still a little surprised by it every time I walk through the garage to leave the house.

How much??

How much did the paint job cost you?? I ask as I'm headed that way soon too (a paint job).
