First time emissions fail...air pump?

The California smog program is definitely a very good thing, anybody who saw what Los Angeles air looked like in the late 80s and 90s, will agree!

I feel that they should eventually bump up the smog exempt date for 1975 to something more reasonable. It is unreasonable to expect a 1980 Chevy perform at 2020 emissions levels, and getting these cars off the road is unAmerican...

My 1980 K5 Blazer is considered a gross polluter. I still passed smog, I got the stickers, wasn't easy but it had to be done

You shouldda been in LA and Orange County in 1963 through 1970 or so. We didn't know about NOx in those days and how it turned regular rain into acid rain. It became obvious when your wet membranes in your head, mouth and nose went on fire.

It tasted like sucking on nickles and it wasn't nice. The dark band of crappola in the sky is biodegradable, and it will go away if you let the sun and oxygen work on it. Also the bacteria that eats the hydrocarbon-ous 'smog' that you can see and smell is consumed by the same bacteria that eats tire rubber in the air and alongside the freeways.

You've never seen rubber in piles on the side of the freeways - right? Where would you suggest the rubber of millions of tires actually goes?

Back from a long weekend away. Thank you all for the info - I will see what it will take to get into compliance and reinstall an air pump/pulley. One of the previous owners must have removed it. Exhaust emissions are spot on - just needs what Mitchell says as equipment. It is interesting that the emissions employees could only select (in state database) the gross volume weight weighting GVWR of 8,100 lbs and in that class, according to Mitchell, did not come with a catalytic converter - I thought was strange. I thought the rating was less (6,000-7,000 lbs). I will be keeping the cat regardless of the class. Just found it interesting. Again, thank you for the information.
