Fittings for oil cooler lines

We have an 88 V20 Suburban and I am having a hard time finding info on the right connectors.

I am installing an ORD brace and it is being blocked by oil cooler lines running through the front cross member back to the oil bypass. I need the lines to be longer so I can push them up and out of the way. I figured I would just make up new lines using AN fittings and an adapter, but I need to figure out what the fittings are so I can get the right adapters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm 99% sure the fittings are metric but I don't remember them using an o-ring seal.
 
Are you sure those pics are for the cooler, the green o-ring tells me that they are for a/c lines. Might want to double check. I do agree with the metric reply btw.

It's what came off of Dorman's website for the oil cooler line. Perhaps they are using generic stock photos of similar connectors. I am going to pull the lines and take a look. I'll post pics of what they look like.

You would think find out this information would be easier, like they would include it in the description. I even searched my service manual and couldn't find out.

Oh well, hopefully someone here knows.
 
I bought some ???-to-AN adapters so I could use my cooler for the steering. I'll dig up the parts and invoice this evening.
 
I'm sorry but I was wrong, twice.

#1) you're correct, they are an o-ring style fittings.

#2) the metric/AN fitting I bought is for the older tube type oil cooler w/ flared fittings, not the later stacked plate style like you have. **I think** it is 14mm x #8 AN but I don't have anything to size it with.

I cannot find the invoice for it so I don't have any part numbers or size specs. Fwiw, the adapter screws into both style coolers but, of course, would not seal on the stacked plate unit.

Now for the steering brace...

There's a small bracket that bolts to the front crossmember, it's purpose is to keep the hoses from moving and rubbing where they pass through the crossmember. I thought that unbolting the bracket and allowing the hoses to move gave enough slack to go around the steering brace.

Fyi, you may or may not have noticed that your hoses don't go all the way to the cooler itself. There are hard extensions coming directly off the cooler that are approx 5" long with a 90° bend at the bottom where they connect to the hoses. Just want to make sure you're replacement hoses aren't too short or long. :thumb:

Thanks for the info. I will pull the bracket tomorrow and see if it gives enough movement. Part of the issue is that the lines might just be stiff from old age.

If I can't figure out the exact AN fittings I might just take the old lines to a shop and have new lines made a couple inchhes longer.
 
The o ring side is 18mm.

Here is what I just did

Welded an 8an to the old line. Actually the hydraulic shop did it and made the lines

It's 1/2 inch HP oil line with 3/8 pipe to -8an, and welded -8an to the existing cooler hoses, one steel and aluminum
 

I thought about replacing the oil filter mount. The good news is the oil filter mount is not an issue. Fortunately, GM was smart enough to use NPT to O-ring adapters so those are easy to change out. The real challenge is at the oil cooler side.

I run 2 oil coolers on this truck and I thought about eliminating the factory one. But, when I tow our boat, the oil temps, with both coolers get up to about 220 measured at the oil pressure port on the block. So, I really feel it needs the two coolers. The auxillary cooler is a B&M super cooler with fan and temp switch which turns on at 190.

Anyway, I went to two hydraulic shops yesterday. The first one was zero help. But the second one showed me what they would do. Essentially they would cut the rubber hose off the cooler side of the lines and then attach an adapter with a ferril ring and make a new line. So, I'll just use the same using AN fittings and steel braided line.

I will clean up the tubes first and I already have replacement o-rings. Ordering the SS line and fittings this morning. Then I have the flexibility to do it how I want it done.

Just trying to decide if I want to use a rubber based oil line or the Earl's speedflex teflon line.
