Floor Jack and Jack Stands

Just don't buy craftsman, those jacks are complete crap. Between my Dad and I we've thrown three away in the past four years. Two were the fancy aluminum models and one was the heavy duty steel jack.

I ended up with a $100 HF jack, it's been fine for the past couple years.

I've got 10+ years on my Craftsman (including 2 where it stayed outside) and it's still going strong. It only gets used about once every 3 months, though.

I have the Costco special(100)and the powerzone from Amazon(150). Both are decent. I have to pump the powerzone more than the Costco one. The powerzone is lighter, but I use the Costco one 90% of the time.

I'm also in the market right now, to replace the one that was stolen way back when. I really need to do the brakes on the heep in short order.

So someone tell me why HF is so cheap? There's a store reasonably close to me, but why is everything basically half other retail?

I have my parents checking costco for me- they need a project  and my brother works at a hardware store back east- he can get me a craftsman one at cost but shipping may make it cost prohibitive so we'll have to see.

(it is hard to communicate necessary lift specs with people like my parents who don't work on cars and never have :haha:)

They sell the same Chinese crap that other places do as their value line, but they buy direct from the factory, warehouse it in SoCal, then sell it "factory direct" to you. And run low margin.

In other words -- as linked above -- you can buy the same jack from your local parts house or Amazon or Sears even. HF is generally a bit cheaper, and if you get one of their (almost constant) 20% off coupons (watch their home page, print one out, boom) you're golden.

And their stands are pretty good and are identical to the ones I got from the parts house, save the color.

Until my 3 1/2 ton floor jack I bought new for 60 bucks when I was 16, some 31 years ago stops working, then I will buy a new one. I've done the search for one. They are out thre but certainly can cost a lot. I still plan on machining a complete cnc machine floor jack that will work flawlessly and won't strain like the crappy Craftsman jacks do. Thats on my list of parts and tools and things to machine when I can. CK5 discounts!!! :D

I have the Sams Club Michelin. I've had it about 7 years now. I love it. I have a set of large 6 ton stands from Advance Auto, and a set of smaller 3 ton Craftsman brand stands. I'm gonna need to buy another, smaller jack in the future. The big Michelin is too big to fit under a lowered car.

my buddy has a heinwerner jack and i think it is junk, handle flops around to easy and have to go all way in then down to get to work. Might be his jack but it's in good shape but if there all like his I will pass. damn thing dented his acura when i pulled jack out for him with floppy handle.

Are we sure that isn't the same jack as the pittsburg one?

I was going to get that one, but $70 in shipping kinda kills the deal, and makes it a $200 jack.

not checked to see if it is or not. It picks K5 or a yukon xl up just fine so suits my needs and has not let me down. Seems well built and handle is nice feeling not all loose feeling. I paid less then what there asking for it about 3 1/2 yrs ago.

maybe your jack is old enough that the design is different/better.

Here is the AL jack that failed twice (had two of them)

and the 4 ton steel jack that failed when I had a car on it :doah:

Pure **** and to make things worse Sears wouldn't warranty them.

Very valid point. Didn't really think of that.

I got the 3 ton HF one for christmas!

Will pull it out and compare part by part with the Arcan my roommate has, but i'm 90% sure its the same exact jack.

HF 12 ton stands. HF long reach floor jack. Replaced the oring in the jack when I got it. Viton rings hold up to freezing better.

I'm assuming you didn't replace it with the spare that came with it. Did you just measure the spare or do you have a PN for an upgrade? Last time I used mine I noticed it taking more strokes to lift.
