Can anyone tell me what 5 speed manual trans would an 1989 4x4 f-250 come with? I'm getting one in and haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Just curious,

TIA :thumb:

A 435 is a 4-spd tranny . The tranny in your 89 F-250 should be a ZF 5-spd that has an all aluminium case. It is pretty strong !
Tom

If your F-250 is of the light duty variety than it is not the stronger tranny that I am thinking of . Ford used an all aluminium light duty case too.
I am not that up on all my Ford stuff so I can not give you specifics - sorry.

That's good enough for me He said it is the lighter duty one so, I guess I'll just wait and see.

Thanks guys :waytogo:

I have a ZF 5 speed out of a 6.9 diesel ferd. Dunno what its worth or what it will fit in.

The lighter duty 5 speed is a Mazda unit. They got used in anything from 4 banger Rangers to light 3/4 tons. They are junk, in my opinion, hard to find GOOD used ones and very pricey. I had to sell an 88 Ford cheap cause that tranny took a dump on me and a used one was like 750 bucks with NO guarantee.
