Bolting in shock towers in that area is a major pain in the arse. The engine crossmember is right there so you have to carefully plan bolt hole locations and do some contortions to get them in.

I have to weld on some lower shock tabs anyway, the dana60 had the shock mounts cut off when i bought it, so I figure I'll do something custom

I feel better about going off the top of the axle. When I swapped out the previous axles, I was surprise at how many rock scrapes the shock tabs received. Now I don't have to worry about broken shock tabs and ruining an expensive shock.
