I just bought a 1985 M1009 with a 8ft Fisher plow that I saw on Ebay that ended up being 6 miles from my house. I bought it outright and he canceled the auction. This is the cleanest one I've ever seen here in the North East with just a little rust in the tailgate. The underneath and the whole body is rust free almost like new. 80K with all new brakes, new Reese receiver hitch, new exhaust, less than 5k on the military rebuild transfer case and rear end. The oil pan and trans pan are painted a light green and look new too. It came with a radio and an extra brand new reduction starter. It had a rumble and vibration when driven and a rear u-joint took care of that. Its smooth as a baby now. The original owner had done some crazy wiring of the plow lights, trailer plug, etc. that just needed to be cleared up and it's now done. I got it for just over 3K and I'm amazed at how clean it is. I will take some pictures tomorrow and post.

Good work. Funky wiring probably related to a full or partial conversion to 12v for the plow and lights.

The 24volts is really just the starter as most everything else is after the resistor bank and 12 volts. What the wiring was is he didn't have the plow lights wired correctly with the 3 way toggle switch. He didn't wire the switch into the dimmer switch so there was no high or low beams for the plow. He cut the main feed out of the light switch that goes into the column mounted dimmer switch to feed the 3 way switch with just "head lights on". The dimmer switch had also been removed from the column and the rod that activates the switch from the directional lever was missing. I have a few columns so a rod and fasteners for the switch were at hand. After fixing that I preceded to remove all kinds of short wires that were all crimped together with either butt connectors or 3M taps that seemed to go nowhere and were just hanging under the dash. All kinds of spaghetti! Transmission position indicator was broken so I fixed that. The glow and water in fuel bulbs were left out of the dash bezel too which is often done as there is a technique to getting these in with the wires being kind of short and the limited space for ones fingers. None of the running lights in the instrument cluster worked either and found 2 out of the 3 were blown, the other not making good contact. It's mostly little things like this that I found with the major stuff all pretty much perfect. The last thing to do is check the IP as the guy told me he removed the check valve as it was bad. Of course this is not a good thing and that is why he put an electric fuel pump on the side rail because it would loose it's prime. Again not a good thing if your mechanical pump membrane ruptures. I will go through this small stuff and get it all "right".
I'm also looking at a M1008 that our town has parked. It is an almost rust free body with just a dime size hole in the driver's cab corner, perfect bed and absolutely NO dents. The trans/transfer case is gone and the interior is rough but the body, axles, radiator, (there is a motor), brake system, cross member, and drive shafts (in bed) is all there. I have the excellent running power train from my old rusted out M1009 that would go into it nicely. It would be nice to have a K30 too. My daughter is a fairly new graduate of Veterinarian College and has her own large animal business. This truck would be great for her to get around to all the farms and to tow her two horse trailer occasionally. Waiting to hear from the town about acquiring it.

HAHAHA good joke on the first pics lol. I was like wtf kinda hillbilly is this guy saying that was in GREAT SHAPE!!!! :thumb:

Nice lookin rig, the underside looks FANTASTIC!!!

nice :thumb:

old fisher speed caster plow setup.

dont knw why he pulled the bumper also. will fit fine if all correct fisher mount on truck now and not a hack up fab job redo.

yes brush gaurd wont fit with fisher frame on .

Yea, the previous owner didn't seem the brightest if you've read my earlier posts about the wiring you'll know what I mean. I'm waiting for the rest of the bumper hardware that he's looking for to put the bumper back on. Going to take the plow frame off for the summer and put the guard back on. Just looks better with the guard on. Put a new IP check valve in and disconnected the wire to the electric fuel pump the guy put on. So far it's running well and starting just fine.

thay did make a summer time pushmate for the plow setup. ( pic's ) vary hard to find item. i happen on this n.o.s. unit few years back tho.

and also any info you need on old fishers here http://library.fisherplows.com/publications.asp?cat=47

just std caridge bolts to hold bumper on .

what size blade ? i got a 8ft and 9 ft blade for mine.

belt drive pump or electric ? i run belt drive and its electric clutch head like a/c comp unit.

here is what i did for headlights on plow and truck. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290574&highlight=relay

The previous owner took off the shackles and their mounts off the frame horns so he is looking for those so I can mount the bumper back. I have them on my old rusty one but hell, let him find the ones he has. The plow is a 8' and he used an electric pump unit to the old style valve body mounted on the drivers side fender well. The is a small momentary switch taped to the joystick knob so the pump can be activated while controlling the valve. I thought most would think I was drinking something with those first pictures!!! Have to have a little fun once in while.

lol, yeah, you got me too. I was thinking "man, that guy got took!" heheh

Wow,probably the most rust free K5 I've seen underneath of that vintage here in many moons!...good score....guess the army used that cosmoline on the trucks, and that olive drab paint seems to deter rust better than the usual factory stuff did............................................................................your first photos were typical of most trucks here--including my pickup unfortunately....it was nearly as clean and rust free as your K5 is when I got it in '03....it now sports the same pop riveted hole patches and rot holes like the K5 in the first pictures....:(
