Found my front axle! and possible motor.

hmm i hope he refrigerated those auto hubs in that coffee can so they dont go bad.

a 396 can make some very nice numbers, whats your use for the truck?

A cam and intake swap can go a long way on a big block. Also going to headers helps alot to. If you plan on rebuilding the engine and want a lot of low end power. I've been told that you can take the crank out of a 454 and put it in a 396 to make a 427 stroker and it will have godly low end torqure.

Either or, hes asking wayyyy too much, I sold both my 10 bolts for 150 I think and they were perfect, and repainted, guess I should have asked 400 :doah:

I found a 396 block for 200, just caught my eye, I'd rather have a bbc over a sbc, partly because i'm pretty well informed with them, and would rather learn more about the bbc.

This is how my motor plans are, no matter what it is, BBC SBC 6.2, 6.5, cummins, whatever, it will be either supercharged, or have a single or twin turbo, the motor will be completely rebuilt from the block up, and everything will be bought new or used but only non major components. So you need a 454 block and 366 crank for a 427, any stroker or any type of kit to make a 396 anything special, or would a forged internal slight bore 396 with a charger be enough for 5.13's 12 inches of lift, and 44's? Truck will be a street driven, mud and big trail truck, not a mall crawler, but not a trail rig either. I was looking at a marine charger setup for a BBC and thought it might be better for a mud truck then a normal charger, unless i'm just retarded :haha:

Thanks for all the info guys!

A stroker is a engine with a larger stroke than normal. Hense the 383 stroke. You go from a 3.48 stroke to a 3.75. The 427 stroker(well not actually 427 but should be close) I was talking about. You use a 396 block and 454 crank. So the 3.76 stroke(396) get replaced with a 4.00 stroke(454) so you go to a 4.00 stroke and a 4.094 bore, witch is almost completely square. This eninge would have a almost flat torqure curve and lost of lower end power like a diesel.

Now what Disciples Performance was talking about would make a great race engine. It would have a small stroke with a large bore witch would let the engine rev fast and high, but I dont think that is conciederd a stroker because you are going to a smaller stroke.

Need to find out what year the 396 block is. Some had the clearance for the bigger crank, some needed grinding to clear the throws. I don't know the numbers of the blocks that will clear, but IIRC it was the later ones, 60s early 70s.

thats 1 way

So you need a 454 block and 366 crank for a 427

the 396 crank in 454 block will also make a 427....the truck 366 crank is same stroke as 396/402 bbc's....from what i understand, the main reason the truck 366 crank is preferred over the passenger car 396 crank, is the 366 truck crank is nitrated steel from the factory for the abuse the truck motor sees,...

i was told along w/crank from the 366, to get/use the 366 main caps and rods(if you use the 366 main caps in 454 block, i'm sure you will need the block align honed) i'm not sure why the 366 caps and rods are more desireable, can anyone shed some light on the differance between the 454 caps/rods as compared to the 366 caps/rods?

I've heard of using the crank/rods in a 454 for a 427, but never heard of using the caps?? Probly a 4 bolt, so maybe they have more beef than standard 4 bolt caps.

As for the rods, they are bigger and use 3/8" rod bolts....
