look again... they're shortbeds.

Ah sh!t. You know, the filler cap looked to be spaced a little funny. :doah:

Yeah, I guess you could lop a foot off the back end, and a foot off the middle of the frame. Lotta work, but then I use my PU to lug stuff around... I kinda wish they had a Longhorn option for me, I wouldn't mind a 9.5' bed :D

well its off topic but i use to have a chevy 1973 4x4 crew cab dually tow truck, with plow and holmes wrecker..... talk about a nasty parking job.... plow and wrecker maade that thing nasty to drive..... to bad the body totally went to cancer.... then became a parts doner.... not bad for only $400

so what frame would the white/yellow truck be on? a shortened crewcab frame?

That is how we did my dads. Chopped 16" out of the middle and 8" off the end (I think those were the numbers).

okay guys I have a plan of attack now, but it won't be put into effect for a little while, but i will take photos and such and post it on here.

GM made these things called a 'Suburban'. Ever heard of them? :haha: :haha:

Cut the back out if you want a pickup. :D

show me some literature to prove they made a shortbed crewcab in the 73-91 body. those in the pics have had the rear axle moved and a shortbed put on.
If you put a crewcab on a pickup frame, you're gonna need about a 4" bodylift to make it work. the frame kicks up way to quick on a single cab. it has been done, and looks cool, but the bodylift is crazy. I ended up cutting almost 3 feet out of my crewcab frame, now its wheelbase is 4" longer than a regular longbed. the easiest way to make a short one is to get a suburban frame to put the cab on, and your drivetrain in.

no panties to bunch here! just thought i'd throw in my 1 1/2 cents worth. I miss-read your post the first time. oops.
If i could do it over, i'd probably just use a shortbed on mine instead of cutting mine so short, or get a suburban and chop the rear roof off. Alot less work. I still don't have the front of my bed on yet!

too cold though.. i have a check coming... bonus... may just take the $300 and buy it and ask him if he minds holding it for a month.... if I do that my wife will say... no get it and do it.....but soon....wabbit... sooon....:wink1:

oh yeah the only problem I have with going with a 1989 is then I have to deal with emmissions..... of a 89.. so that means I need 2 catalytic converters :doah: and strickter emmission laws....

I vote that you find a really cheap suburban and then chop it 10" behind the rear passenger seats . then bob it 18" so it has a little 4ft bed . You will then have a 4 door to to haul your buddies and room behind the rear seats for tools and stuff and the nice thing about the burb rear seats is they fold down and give you a nice flat area for you and your girly friend to get busy in the woods :haha: . you will still have enough room for recovery gear and a full size spare in the bed . all this with a little less wheelbase then a full size truck .

Are you sure? All my '91 crew had stock was a charcoal canister, EGR and a single cat. I beleive its because its over 8500# GVWR.

IMO its easier to start with the right wheelbase (i.e. Burb)... then you carve away the body as you please and still drive it. :D

I say 2 cats due to having true dual exhaust.. dont think just 1 on one side will get me through.....

wifes hormones are on a rampage... 5 1/2 months preggo.... and she doenst want me to do the crew cab swap this summer.. she said wait till next... she didnt really say why.. but eventually it came out.. she thinks that it will take up too much of my time and I will neglect our kids and her..... dayumned if ya do and dayumned if ya dont... :doah:

Im thinking about doing that 2 my burb

I wanna make the window that would be right behind the rear doors electric- im thinking about using the rear tailgate and windown from the burb but its curved glass- i think that would be alot of work.

Got any tips- idears?
