bender plans

A few weeks ago I sent an email to this company for the 'free' bender plans. Last week I got an email with an attachment with it. The attachment is a pdf file with the general plans for building the bender. I was really inpressed that the company was giving away free plans for a tubing bender, then it dawned on me. They are giving away plans, but they are also selling die sets and parts.
I have access to a very large cad machine shop, so it wouldn't really be an issue for me to make the parts, but for the common joe that has a cordless drill and a c-clamp, better just plan on a very long weekend for this to be completed, then you can order the dies!

I'm not saying this is a good deal, it is if you have access to machinery, you will need a good drill press capable of drilling a 1.5" hole in 1/2" material and a way to hog out a 7" slot at .505". BTW the prints list the tolerances at +_.005". Anything more or less then that then your angles could be off!:eek1:

the gottrikes.com one is much better i believe.. and "easier" to build.. i built mine but like others saying u need a bridgeport to get that accurate

I have a friend who built the got trikes bender and he says its great...... not a bad deal for a bender if you don't mind working on it

I was just looking at that on you tube, I need something that can do 1.5" tubing on a 4' radius. It's not like I'm in a super rush, just keeping busy until spring, stockpiling parts and prints!

Even though it won't work for me, it might work for you guys. affordablebender.com looks like the right setup for a 7" radius bend of up to 1 3/4" tube for $299. btw I did send them an email asking if they sell just the bending radi and the follower, guess I shall see what they say!

On a conventional bender you are not going to find that 4.5 yes but not 4. Most companys produce the tightest die possible for the size of tubing. If you are bending .188 it would work but I think .120 stuff would crinkle.

i got my plans last night, and finally looked through them...this one might be over me head.
