Anyone ever changed one?? Tips?? Can I buy just the front seal or do I have to buy a whole rebuild kit?? I am talking about the seal that is right by the rag joint.
Thanks
-Chris

I replaced mine, I bought the rebuild kit. It was less than $15 IIRC. Pretty easy. Post up or PM me if you have any questions.

Oh ya, it's a lot easier if you take the box off. Could be a good time to look for cracks in the frame and such.:)

Cool I didnt think the rebuild kit was that cheap :)
Well I got a 2wd box that I robbed the shaft out of and I am just going to swap it into my box since the 2wd box was all rusted inside. The only thing wrong with my 4wd box is that it leaks at that front seal  Can I get the rebuild kit at any parts store??

I got mine at NAPA....I'm sure all the others have them as well:grin:

This might help you too. Got it from some post a long time ago when I did the same thing.

I just did one on a 80's o-ring box . Super easy and if you are just doing the front seal .

I pulled snap ring , pushed seal in on one side , slipped hook pic under other side and removed . Then to drive in a new seal I used a deep walled socket the same size , I want to say 15/16 socket but my toolbox isn't next to me to verify :k5: :k5:

ok so the seal is just pressed into the front of the box?? That will be easy then thanks.
