my u joint started making noise the other day. Then when I was on the way home my pinion seal blew. Got the new seal in so everything is good but i cannot figure out how to get the front u joint out. After some searching i found out that they originally came with plastic clips or something that had to be melted off. But i dont know if mine have been replaced or not. I feel like they would have been replaced since my truck has been on 38.5s since before i owned it but i dont know what the original looks like. The one thats on there now has 2 c clips on the outside of the cap. I can remove it from the pinion yoke or whatever its called but the two sides that are on the driveshaft i cant beat out with a hammer. Does this sound like the original one that i need to heat up and melt the plastic?

Yes I think the original ones had plastic in there. It took a long time but I changed mine out. Had to use a torch to burn off/out all of the plastic so there was room for the clips to snap into.

Where should i be aiming the torch at on the u joint? The caps that the clips were on? Or the other set of caps?
