I recently posted in regard to a Diagnostic Scan Reading in which I was attempting to find a fix for obvious issues with the Jimmy. My initial concern was a shudder/chugging that developed after I rebuilt the TBI. Once the faults that the diagnostic scan exposed were corrected the shudder remained. Spending hours on the interweb watching video and reading article after article I concluded that the issue truly lies with the transmission.

There are tons of articles documenting the inherent issues with the 700R4. The shuddering problem appears to be one of the top two across the board. Quite a few of these articles mention one of two products that will eliminate the shuddering. I am pretty skeptical when it comes to quick fixes as most of us are aware they end up being snakeoil. I decided to try this one:

Let me tell you something...two minutes after putting this in I went for a drive and true to its word I INSTANTLY noticed a difference. Quarter mile down the road rolling into O/D the change was night and day. I turned around and a quarter mile the other way you cant even tell there was a problem. No Joke!!!

Dont get me wrong I know this is not a permanent fix. I am pretty sure this is the last hoorah for the transmission. With nearly 178K showing on the odometer I am going to get as much life out of it as I can with it showing signs of death. Hope this helps someone.

I remember some Fords having converter shudder issues and "Lube Guard" additive was found to be very effective at eliminating it..

From their web site :..
"Not for Fords before 1986 that use Type F Fluid" ...says it is compatible with all other ATF fluids, also states not to use it in CVT or DCT transmissions..
I think all Fords after 1987 used Dexron/Mercon fluid..so its OK to use in them..

Hmmm, this has me thinking. My K5 has a pretty bad shutter at idle. At first I thought it was an intake leak, so I checked for that using the spray method. Then I was thinking it was my Idle Air Control Valve so I replaced that. None of it helped. The shudder is slightly bad in Park, really bad in Reverse, non-existent in Neutral, and regular bad in Drive. Since it almost fully goes away in Neutral, perhaps it is the 700R4.

The 700r4 only shudders when it's moving.
Any shudder at idle is engine related.

Yep.
I have used this on my 4l60e and it's been 2 years now and it's still doing good.
I used it on recommendation from @Greg Ducato.
I believe it was the brand lubeguard but same concept.
Some snake oils do work otherwise there would not be a market for snake oil

It wont hurt to try.

That is actually a pretty good product, it is a condensed package of friction modifiers and will usually last for a few thousand miles in most conditions, sometimes much longer. The worst offenders are Fords and Toyotas that haven't been serviced on a regular basis.
