I just went through the same scenerio. I stripped out the spline. LMC sells them for $250. If you buy a used one I still wouldn't install it without replacing all 3 of the 'U'-Joints. I found that where I've been getting my oil change and lube jobs they miss the 'U' joints and I'm sure the fitting on the drive shaft. I neat trick I saw was putting a shock boot over the spline slip joint and securing it with SS hose clamps to keep it somewhat clean.

$125 sounds high for one out of a salvage yard that you'll still need to rebuild.

Where about in WA are you? I have a front and a rear driveline off a '76 K5 I'll sell ya for $40....Need rebuild.:deal:

i duno i havent pulled it apart to check the female end yet...
i dropped it off at my buddys shop n hes gunna look at it w/ me in a couple days

so it sounds like i should get the new one for 225?

i have found used feals tight with old dry grease and dirt. but when all clean and new grease its sloppy. best bang for the buck and time is new .

I have a somewhat related questions--I have some old '76 shafts I'm going to try to refurbish myself.

1. My slip yoke on the front shaft is very stiff. Is it okay to pull completely apart forcibly to inspect/clean?
2. Anyone have a p/n for the "ball" section of the CV? I think I can figure out all the u-joint p/n's.
