Like the title says, what are you guys seeing rebuilt/reman Dana 60's going for? I know Boyce sells them for around $3k and up (not including shipping) and WFO (who is local for me) will build you one for around $4k and up but that just sounds like a ton of money for what they are. What do you think one should cost if it's just a local guy that went through and replaced all of the wear items?

The reason I ask is I've been searching here, Craigslist, and a couple different forums for a good used D60 for over a year now but out here in CA people think they're worth their weight in gold and whenever I find one in my price range ($1000-1200) it winds up being sold before the ad has been posted for 24 hours. Right now there's a guy around an hour and half away that has a '79 Ford D60 that he's saying is a "remanufactured dana 60 snow fighter axle" that comes with 4.11 gears that aren't installed for $2500 obo and the pictures show it being in really good shape with shiny Warn premium hubs and still being strapped to the pallet. I messaged the guy to see if he's got any kind of paperwork that shows what work was done and he said he had a list of what was done that he was going to try but it'd be better to come see it in person. What do you guys think something like this would be worth?

So no gears in it or just a different ratio?

Imo, without paperwork supporting all new bearings etc, $1200-$1500.

I asked the same question and am waiting for a response. It has the yoke installed in the pics so I'm assuming it has another set of gears installed and comes with the 4.11's. You're right, if he can't produce any paperwork proving what was done it's not going to be worth anywhere near his asking price...

sounds crazy but check places like www.dynatrac.com for a price on a brand new build to your specs. and I would skip ball joint parts they tend to use now and do king pin stuff . then skip crappy warn hubs as there not the top of the hill parts anymore. Yukon hubs are were its at . warn if fail go open = no 4wd . . . Yukon fail = locked still.

6-7 years ago I priced a built 60 from them and it was king pin parts and was less than I could buy a stocker for ( in good rebuild shape ) and beef it up .

heck if you want to build one your self I have a bare clean housing gm 60 ready to sell. pm me for info .

HP Ford D60 axles bring $1800 around here so assuming that's been rebuilt, $2500 sounds reasonable.

That's what I'm thinking. People outside of CA don't realize how badly inflated the prices on these axles are (and everything else really). There was a guy down in Modesto selling three of the 78-79 Ford D60's for a grand a piece earlier this week. I contacted him first thing in the morning (within 12 hours of the ad being posted) and somebody had already bought all three...

My original plan was to find a good used one and take my time building it up with Yukon hubs, beefier stub shafts, and 2009+ Dodge 3500 brakes. There's a wrecking yard a couple hours away that has a '92 Dodge D60 for $990 that I've been temped to go pickup but it has 295,xxx miles on it and will need a complete rebuild so I've been trying to look at other options. Besides that I know the Dodge king pin axles are a couple inches narrower and I'm not sure how that will work with the H2 wheels I plan on using. I'll shoot you a PM about that GM housing you have but I have a feeling shipping it across the country is going to kill that deal lol.

I have a HP60 and can assure you that it costed much more than 2500$ all said and done.

I can say the same of my GM 60 but that's only relevant in resale if you have the paperwork. The one posted has new stuff outside but no proof of internals and the 4.10 r&p isn't even installed.

If you plan on replacing all the bearings, seals, axles, joints, gears, on a used one, then $2.5k for a done axle in CA would be tempting to me. I think I paid $700 for mine and by the time I was done rebuilding/replacing I was easily over $2k into it plus labor.

The guy sent me a list of things that were done (below) but hasn't shown me any kind of documentation yet. I'm going to go look at it later today but was wondering besides the easy to see stuff on the outside, is there way to confirm all the internal stuff that was done? I plan on looking around the u-joints to see if I can see fresh seals, making sure everything spins freely, that there's no excessive play in the pinion, and opening up the diff if he'll let me but is there anything else that'd be obvious?

- Ratios from 3.54 to 4.11
-New Pinion & Diff Bearings
-New Pinion Seal, Nut
-2 Inner Tube Seals
-2 S/D Axle U-Joints
-2 Lower King Pin Bearings & Seals
-2 Upper King Pin Taper Pins, Bushing and Springs
-2 Spindle Stub Axle Bearings
-2 New Rotors
-16 Wheel Studs
-Wheel Bearing Seals
-2 Rebuilt Calipers
-Warn Lock Hubs
-Wagner Brake Pads

Well I went and looked at it this afternoon and it's exactly as the guy described and it had all new seals, u-joints, pinion, etc and everything turned real smooth. He bought it off the guy on eBay that sells rebuilt D60's all the time over a year ago but never had the time to do anything with it because of his other projects and never even took it off the pallet it came on. It still has the stock 3.54 gears but he had a set of new in box Yukon 4.11 gears that came with the axle. He accepted the $2k I offered and we shook hands and loaded it up. Gotta say I'm pretty stoked with deal, especially given how much beat up used ones go for around here. Anyways, just wanted to put a finished stamp on this thread real quick and say thanks for all the tips and feedback. Now I need to figure out what all I need to swap that bad boy in lol.

yep I have a 60 I did up with Yukon 5.13 / Timken install kit / ARB / 1410 yoke / Yukon 4340 shafts / nitro joints / broached spicer hubs to 35 spline / ruff stuff diff cover / bronze bushing kit for king pins . . . . so yep building a big 60 can get crazy real quick .

Ugh I don't want to think how much I have into mine
but then I have one I pulled from a drw crew cab over 10 years ago . fresh oil / rebuilt king pins with out pins / serviced wheel bearings when swap to srw hub/rotors / she has been going fine for years under 3 trucks now with 235/85/16 - 38x12.50x16.5 swampers and now plow truck duty with no problems .

you can be usedstock to full on wild in them and still be good .
