"Gredda's" Build / WTF / Help Me! Thread

small update

replaced my serpentine belt....no more squeaking!!!

now, on to removing the tailgate (so close to sprayin bedliner)

anyone got any pointers on removing the tailgate? i was just gonna unbolt it from the underside of the truck and pull it off???

needed to let out some frustration, so I "defanged" Gredda. They were bugging me anyway. Plus, I think I am gonna be cutting the fenders anyway when the new tire setup...so, why not. I just used my angle grinder and it sliced right threw it.

yeah, I returned the LMC crap...it wasnt even close.

At this point, I am on the lookout for solid windows. If I cant find them, then I may try and order these.

thanks

Finally! Got the time to finish the prep and got the rig sprayed today. I used liner xtreme, and sprayed it myself. the prep was SUPER annoying and hard work (im a bit OCD)

but mixing and spraying was pretty straightforward. I had done it once before, so this time was cake.

Looks good to me! should get a tad darker as it cures.

Looks like it turned out good :waytogo:
How much of the product did you use ?
It should also keep your pedals from rusting now  .......:D

The cover of my brake pedal was falling off...I thought...hmm, just spray it.

Im pretty happy with it. I mean, some overspray here and there, but shes no show truck. I think it will be great for when I've got the wet dogs or some dove.

I ordered 2 kits. (1gal part A)(1pint partB)(1pint reducer)(1packet rubber) in each kit. Its my second time using the liner xtreme brand, and both times were just what i wanted. Easy, good price/decent spray gun. I used all of the first kit, and probably right at, or just over half of the second one. 1 standard truck bed kit wont be enough for a good coat.

Next step, get the tbi setup right so it will pass emissions. Then have her inspected. THEN! axle swap/tires!

:yikes: Inspection and emissions tests, yuck !! One of the FEW good things here, is once it's 20 years old, no inspections needed and no emission tests on "historic" vehicles :D.

As far as the liner goes, from the pics it does really look good , I sprayed the underside on mine and once I get some other things done the interior will get sprayed as well. I used the "AL's Liner" and have nothing but good things to say about it, on the underside I used a full 2 gallons, minus the quart or so that got spilled or was used in a tragic "tangled air line misfire" :doah: :haha:. So I was thinking at least 2 or 3 gallons are going to be needed for the inside .

This Kit comes with its own spray gun? Did you post links to it already?

you need a air compressor....decent one with good cfi.

other than that, I needed a bucket, a paint stirrer (i used drill mounted one), some painters tape, some plastic sheeting, scotch brite pads, some wax/degreaser prep spray. and a TON of free time. Prep work took forever, and is key to a good bond.

What size air compressor do you have? I started a discussion about that a little while back about what size to get... some say 60 or 80 gallon... and a range of other things... I'm looking to buy one and am taking all suggestions...

Thanks for the help

a buddy of mine does paint and body for a living and said...air capacity is less important for his type of usage. the rate at which it can refill itself is more important.

if you take your compressor for tools and use it outside of a power source, then size may be important.

with mine, even when the air pressure got low during the spray, the motor would turn on, and could refill the pressure faster than we were using it. so there was never a decline in air pressure during the application.

here is what i have

its pricey, but I bought it after my second husky stopped working.

Looks good!!! Glad to see some more progress on this thing. Look forward to hearing it's back on the road again!

Haha, unfortunately most of us are all too familiar with how time consuming and easily derailed these projects can get... I just enjoy seeing and reading your posts since I've been following this since before you found your truck!!!

I also blame the heat. 102 today and working in the garage is brutal. Some people do their build in the winter, so they can enjoy it in the summer. We are the exact opposite! I want to have this done by aug/sept so I can actually take it out and use it!

Interior is going back in tonight....while I watch the Gamecocks take a back to back National Title in the College World Series!

I got the top back on...which does atleast look like progress. I replaced the weather stripping/seal on the left and right hand side of the camper top (bottom) as well as the camper top side seal that goes against the cab.

now, a question about my windows. I have sliders, but the weather stripping is gone from the sliding parts. i already sent back the LMC replacements cuz they suck. so instead of buying some solid windows, what if I just siliconed my current slider windows shut? i dont care about anything but not leaking. The only time the top is on is when its nasty out

Silicone that thing up! lol. I really don't see why you can't seal it off though... It would be fine until some saw you had sliders and wanted to open one... breaking the seal... I'd just go to the hardware store and look for an exterior product... white, black... whatever you think would look better. Clear would work too but I think you could make it look cleaner with a solid color.

I'd search on here I think someone had a write up about useing lexon or some plexy glass to replace windows. Even putting tent on it.:waytogo:
