Guess that noise

Good grief. That’s more than I thought and doesn’t look like it’s a fun install either.

tcase out . pull adapter after you support trans . then reinstall tcase and drive shafts .

also you need a gasket for tcase side and a SPECIFIC square cut oring for trans side .

atleast your not looking for the th400/205 adapters or the ultra rare 1 year 4L80-e to 205 adapter . . . .

$200 later I bought the adapter off of ebay. Thanks @sweetk30. Now to source the gaskets and time. I'm contemplating also having the t-case rebuilt while it's out and possibly the transmission to. Can't imagine all of that black sludge I keep finding at the bottom of the transmission pan is good. Since I'm yanking everything anyways and need new driveshafts, now is the time to decide if I want to go ahead and convert to an auto with OD or not.

depends on what gears you have/want. The 700r4 driveline length will work with an sm465 set up. Not sure about NV4500

4.88's and 37's. 3500rpm at 70 isn't cool for me and our toll roads are 80mph which is 4000rpm haha. Currently I'm running a TH350.

yeah I have 4.88 37’s and the sm465 top speed is 65 at around 3k and I don’t do it long lol

you want lower rpm @ highway speeds and your trans needs rebuild by the sounds of the black / dark grey sludge in the pan = time for 700r4 but built correctly and setup for standalone lockup control since you wont have all the little bits to make it 100% factory / but any good trans shop can do this at time of rebuild .

your in tx so get ahold of greg ducato @ pheonix transmission he is a member here and done a lot for the guys here . he know trans . :deal:

I'm still up in the air. I got some folks saying it's fine and others saying go 4l80e. I've got time. Progress is going to slow up next year because I spent way to much money this year on this truck.

do the nv4500 and never have to mess with auto trans blowing up. I only wish I went nv4500 instead of sm465.

Auto's don't scare me. Not worried about that. And definitely not worried about blowing up a 4l80e.
